With every news bit from Blizzard, we’re more certain that the initial World of Warcraft: Classic content release plan was scrapped. It’s not surprising considering the fact that the first time around every new content drop was a gulp of fresh air. However, 15 years later, time-gating old content seems a bit silly. With nothing else to do in the game, most of WoW Classic’s player base is abandoning the game. Blizzard is out to stop that and just a few weeks after Phase 2 kicked-off introduces PvP battlegrounds which were originally planned for 2020 release.

A new post on Blizzard’s forums suggests that on the week of December 10th, every WoW Classic realm will unlock Warsong Gulch and Alterac Valley battlegrounds and Elemental Invasions. Here’s the official quote:

“Warsong Gulch and Alterac Valley will open in WoW Classic simultaneously on all realms the week of December 10. At the same time, Elemental Invasions will occur in Kalimdor, with Blazing, Thundering, Watery, and Whirling Invaders appearing in Un’goro Crater, Azshara, Winterspring, and Silithus respectively.

We’ve been following the deadly deeds of the Classic community closely over the last week as the Honor system sparked an impressive amount of World PvP on PvP realms, and we’re excited to see what might transpire over the next three weeks. Nonetheless, like many of you, we can’t wait to charge into some battlegrounds, so we’ve detached this content unlock from the plan we previously announced. Blackwing Lair and Darkmoon Faire are coming in early 2020.”

In case you didn’t know, World of Warcraft: Classic just received the long-awaited Honor System which allows players to get honor points for kills in the open world. Phase 2 update made almost impossible to level a character beyond level 50 since there’s a lot of ganking in the end-game zones. The early addition of Warsong Gulch and Alterac Valley battlegrounds might tempt those honor-hungry players to farm their points in a more streamlined fashion. This will enable the rest of the community to finish their leveling journey without being killed by a max level character every few minutes.
