Finally, the ambitious open-world western game Red Dead Redemption 2 is just around the corner with the RDR2 PC release shaking the gaming market on November 5th! The console owners had the chance to enjoy Red Dead Redemption 2 for an entire year before their PC counterparts. It should also be noted that this is not the first time Rockstar Games made PC players wait for an ambitious title to come out.

It took a few years before Grand Theft Auto V reached PC players after its initial release on consoles while at the same time PC gamers never had the chance to play the original Red Dead Redemption released back in 2010. However, the patience of PC fans will be rewarded with nothing less than the most fleshed-out and definitive version of this massive Western game!

What is Red Dead Redemption 2 all about?

RDR2 PC release will bring us the second installment in Red Dead Redemption series. The original game came out in 2010 and it was an open-world Western-themed game developed and published by the creators of the legendary Grand Theft Auto franchise – Rockstar Games. On its release, the original Red Dead Redemption was massive, gritty, realistic and it received critical acclaim as well as quickly formed a large fanbase among console owners. RDR saw continual DLC expansions over the years but it will still not compare to what its sequel Red Dead Redemption 2 is bringing for PC.

This is not just another attempt of Rockstar Games company to flex its muscles or cash in with another triple-A title. RDR2 PC release will give rise to the biggest Rockstar game as of yet. Don’t worry if you haven’t had the chance to play the first Red Dead Redemption. Even though those who played the original will meet familiar faces in the campaign and have an overall broader understanding of things at hand, Red Dead Redemption 2 features a self-contained story that perfectly stands on its own.

The game takes place in 1899. We’ll get to play as Arthur Morgan, an outlaw who grew up in the world of crime. 1899 is a harsh time for outlaws and the staggering 60-hour long campaign will tell a story about an outlaw gang, to which Arthur belongs, and their struggle to survive. RDR2 PC release will give us a story mode filled with action, crime, heists, as well as various memorable, well-written characters that will change throughout the story in this detailed and realistic world of the Old West.

Technical enhancements of the PC version

In typical Rockstar fashion, on its release, Red Dead Redemption 2 accomplished impressive feats on the technical side, which at times made consoles to stutter! Unlike the consoles, the PC platform is by its nature open to customization through unique builds, therefore RDR2 PC release will push the technical capacities of the PC right to its edge!

First of all, the PC Red Dead Redemption 2 will feature a plethora of visual enhancements starting with 4K resolution and HDR support, ability to support multi-monitor and wide-screen configurations, much faster FPS count than seen on consoles, improved global illumination, the day and night cycle will be more immersive with lighting improved by ambient occlusion.

We’ll have higher resolution shadows at various distances, enhanced reflections, even more realistic snow trails than before as well as enhanced grass and fur textures. On consoles, Red Dead Redemption had amazing visuals but at moments RDR2 on the PC looks down-right photorealistic!

Additional content exclusive to RDR2 PC release

While it will be interesting to see the Wild West at 4K resolution and enjoy all the detailed, jaw-dropping graphics, Red Dead Redemption 2 PC version is far more than just a shallow graphical reskin of the console version. The PC port will have substance, and by that, we mean additional content exclusive to this platform. Sure, we are going to see visual enhancements accompanied by a variety of cosmetic elements that will be included in different editions of the game. So far PC players can already preorder the Standard Edition, as well as Special Edition and of course – the Ultimate Edition.

Cosmetics include different outfits Morgan can wear as he explores the ruthless world of Old West but the RDR2 PC release is also going to include many things among which you’ll also find new weapons, like M1899 Pistol. Some of these guns like Evans Repeater, High Roller Revolver, and Le Mat Revolver are already available on consoles, however, only in the online mode (Red Dead Online). On the PC version, these weapons will be available during the single-player campaign as well. Additionally, PC gamers will have the chance to ride 7 new horses! Just like with the guns, horses like Perlino Andalusian and Red Chesnut Arabian previously were available only on multiplayer (based on the popularity of our article about RDR2 horses, we know you can’t wait!).

RDR2 PC release will not only bring new items but will also expand upon an already massive campaign and open-world with 3 new Bounty Hunter missions, 2 new treasure maps, and a mission focused on collecting herbs for different rewards. The player will also be able to find up to 5 trinkets for permanent gameplay buffs. The Wild West of Red Dead Redemption 2 was already teeming with life with various NPCs offering side-missions and side-activities, wildlife that could be hunted for resources, though, the PC version is going to add even of that! Also, don’t forget that the multiplayer mode along with all its updates (including the newest Frontier Pursuit) will be working from the moment RDR2 PC release hits the market – that was not the case for console players when RDR2 first came out.

Pre Order bonuses on different digital storefronts

Bonuses received with the PC copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 will also depend upon the digital storefront through which the game will be purchased. The most bonuses will, of course, be included in the Rockstar Games Launcher: 50 gold bars for RDR Online, a warhorse, cash bonus, outlaw survival kit and a treasure map in the campaign.

Rockstar without a doubt confirmed that on RDR2 PC release the game will be available on other digital storefronts such as Epic Game Store, Humble Store, Green Man Gaming and various other digital retailers such as Gamestop. In late November, Red Dead Redemption 2 will also be one of the launch titles of Google Stadia service. Bonuses on these platforms will include 25 gold bars for RDR Online, giving Rockstar Games Launcher version an edge.

What about Steam? Don’t worry, Red Dead Redemption 2 will eventually be available on Valve’s platform as well, however, there will be an approximately one-month delay between its release on Rockstar Games Launcher and Steam. We can expect to see RDR2 PC release to arrive on Steam somewhere around late November or early December, as the exact date is not yet known.
