In a surprise announcement, IO Interactive, a development studio known for its Hitman games, revealed their new project. A new game will be about the one and only Bond, James Bond. The new game is titled Project 007 and will “feature a wholly original Bond story exclusively as a video game”.

The new game will be built using the Glacier engine – the same engine is used for all IO Interactive’s Hitman games. From what we gather, for this project IO Interactive will work in collaboration with both MGM and Eon Productions – both studios worked with many licensed games in the past but aren’t particularly known for their quality. However, IO Interactive is, so we’re staying positive for the time being…
It’s worth mentioning that Project 007 is only the working title, so the real name of the game might change in the future. However, its concept shouldn’t. The game will aim to tell an origin story about how the famous agent earned his 00 status.
It’s been 8 years since the latest James Bond venture into the video game world. In 2012 players got a chance to play through 007 Legends which wasn’t very good, to say the least. We can only hope that IO Interactive’s experience in making the Hitman series would help them create quality stealth gameplay suitable for the franchise.
