We have a new Twitch record! A well-known Spanish streamer David “TheGrefg” Martinez yesterday smashed the Twitch record of concurrent viewers on an individual stream that earlier belonged to Tyler “Ninja” Blevins himself. And what do you know – David “TheGrefg” Martinez is also a Fortnite streamer.

TheGrefg’s stream peaked at 2,4 million viewers and dwarfed the previous record set by Ninja by quite a margin. Ninja’s record stood strong since 2018 but had only 635 thousand viewers. Spaniard reached almost 4 times more concurrent viewers and became the undisputed champion of Twitch.

If you’re not an avid Fortnite fan and was wondering what the hell happened during the stream that attracted so many viewers, you will be surprised… Apparently, David “TheGrefg” Martinez announced his in-game skin. Bonkers, right?

In all seriousness, David “TheGrefg” Martinez did a tremendous job of hyping up his skin reveal which is a part of the Icon Series in Fortnite. In case you didn’t know, Icon Series is a series of skins based on top Fortnite content creators. Until now there were 3 skins based on Ninja, Lachlan Power, and Kathleen “Loserfruit” Belsten. David “TheGrefg” Martinez skin is 4th in the series and the first that highlights a Spanish-speaking content creator.

This instance shows that while Twitch is dominated by English language streams, there’s an insane amount of foreign language users that can dwarf even the biggest speaking streamers when mobilized.

Congratulations to David on this achievement!
