The new World of Warcraft expansion Shadowlands is just around the corner. While many fans are expecting to hear some news about the Shadowlands release date in the upcoming Gamescom Opening Night Live, we already received a slight confirmation that WoW Shadowlands will have its time in the spotlight during the opening presentation.

First, there was “That power will be your prison” bit featured in Geoff Keighley’s Tweet announcing the event:

However, now Blizzard is teasing some news themselves and released a new teaser trailer for their upcoming World of Warcraft: Shadowlands animated series called Shadowlands Afterlives. The trailer ends with a date stating that the first episode of this new series will land on August 27th, on the night of Gamescom Opening Night Live.

As for the trailer itself, it’s a true homage to the fans of World of Warcraft lore. It features Uther the Lightbringer, Arthas, Garosh Hellscream, and many other yet unfamiliar faces. From what we gather, Shadowlands Afterlives will be a four-part series dedicating each episode for one of the 4 game’s Covenants. If you still don’t know about this new Shadowlands feature, we suggest reading through our previous blog post explaining the core features of the new World of Warcraft expansion.

Shadowlands Afterlives seems to be drawn using the same art style as its previous iterations – Warbringers for Battle for Azeroth, Harbingers for Legion, Lord of War for Warlords of Draenor, and The Burdens of Shaohao for Mists of Pandaria expansion. Most likely it will follow the same release path giving players a new episode every week or so.

Even if you don’t like these animated features, it’s nice to see them being revealed. This is a clear signal that Blizzard is ready to kick off the next chapter in World of Warcraft’s story so it’s the best time to hop right into the world and start preparing to cross the eternal veil.
