Avid Twitch viewers already noticed that the new game is blowing up on the platform. Among Us is not a new game but recent streams with popular hosts helped the game to step out of the shadows, and now millions are playing this interesting social game where players have to find imposters before they kill the rest of the crew. Due to the huge popularity of this 2018 survival party game, developer Innersloth announced that they will be making a sequel. However, a few weeks later Innersloth changed their mind and said that they will be focusing on adding new content to the already existing title instead of making a new game altogether.
According to a post released on the company’s blog, developers decided against the sequel due to the recent spike on Twitch that showed them that there are many ways the team can improve the original.
The blog post reads:
“Us devs have had several long discussions about what we want to do with the game. When do we stop working on Among Us 1? What content goes into Among Us 2? The main reason we are shooting for a sequel is because the codebase of Among Us 1 is so outdated and not built to support adding so much new content. However, seeing how many people are enjoying Among Us 1 really makes us want to be able to support the game and take it to the next level. We have decided to cancel Among Us 2 and instead put all our focus into improving Among Us 1. All of the content we had planned for Among Us 2 will instead go into Among Us 1. This is probably the more difficult choice because it means going deep into the core code of the game and reworking several parts of it. We have lots of things planned and we’re excited to bring new content to everyone as you continue to enjoy playing!”
As for the new content the team is talking about in their post, there are some long-awaited features. The team wants to improve their servers, add colorblind support, and create all-new friends and account systems. There’s also tons of in-game content – Innersloth said that they’re currently working on adding new stages, new costumes, and more to keep their momentum going.
If you’ve never heard about Among Us before, you should know that it’s a social game party game of teamwork and betrayal for 4-10 players. While the game features simple mechanics, it’s all about the social aspect – you assume the role of the crew member or the impostor, and your main goal is to survive until the end of the game. Rat out the impostor or if you’re one, kill all the crew members without them knowing to achieve victory. We tried it, and we loved it so we really recommend you would pick it up and play with your friends as well.
