Yesterday was a big day for any Star Wars franchise fan.  If you love movies, you were treated by the news about Taika Waititi creating a new Star Wars flick, if you love games, a bunch of already released titles such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Battlefront II gave some awesome loot to celebrate May the 4th… Oh, and one more small bit of news from Sony  – the company announced about a new Star Wars game series for PlayStation VR!

The new series will be titled Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series and should put players right into the action of every important canonical event in the Star Wars timeline. According to the developers from ILMxLAB, the game idea was born back in 2016 with a goal to tell a new and unique story about one of the most infamous villains in the galaxy.

ILMxLAB Executive Creative Producer Mark S. Miller wrote:

“We wanted to bring you into the world of Star Wars in a way that could only be done through immersive storytelling in VR. This would put YOU right in the middle of the action to connect with amazing characters as your actions move the story forward.”

If these lines caught your attention you should also know that Mark S. Miller used to work with the Lucasfilm Story Group to develop Star Wars stories for feature films. According to his post, the team is dedicated to bringing the same visual and audio techniques used to create that epic Star Wars feel in VR as well.

Here’s a couple of images to get your imagination going…

Even grander reason to hype yourselves up is that the game already received some honors. Vader Immortal won the Best AV/VR Game at the 2020 GDC Awards, and the Producers Guild Innovation Award earlier this year. Both awards are given by the developers to the developers, so the colleagues in the field are really feeling the force with this one.

However, currently Vader Immortal has no release date, but the post by the developers ends with a promise to share way more details in the coming months. The first episode in the series might come sometime during the summer.
