Gearbox Software officially confirmed that Borderlands 3 will be released on September 13th, 2019. In the date reveal the developers of the game confirmed some multiplayer features including online co-op and local split-screen multiplayer. However, Microsoft Store might’ve revealed a bit more. Store listing also includes a tag which says “Cross-Platform Co-Op”.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise since the game will be released on PC and Xbox One simultaneously and this wouldn’t be the first game on Microsoft Store supporting PC and Xbox One cross-play. However, PlayStation 4 cross-platform play might also be possible. Having in mind, that the PC version of the game will be sold on Epic Store for a limited time we could see Borderlands 3 following the path of Fortnite.

Same as Fortnite, Borderlands is built on the Unreal Engine, so Gearbox Software might feature the same technology as Fortnite to enable PlayStation 4 cross-play as well. Having in mind that Borderlands 3 is still quite far away, Gearbox has plenty of time to implement the required tech and connect the Borderlands fans no matter their hardware. We’ll just have to wait and see if that’s the case.

Borderlands 3 releases on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 13th, 2019.
