The very first PAX Online event was full of interesting news. Gearbox used their time in the spotlight to share some news about the future of their wacky looter shooter game Borderlands 3. Apparently, the game will get a new version dedicated to the next generation consoles for free. In other words, if you own Borderlands 3 on your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, you can upgrade it to PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X version free of charge. Moreover, the new version of Borderlands 3 will have a few new features worthy to talk about.

If you have an hour to spare, check out the full presentation below:

According to the information provided by Gearbox, the next-generation version of Borderlands 3 will run at 60 FPS and 4K resolution. It will also include an all-new split-screen mode allowing to play the game with 4 players simultaneously.

But that’s not all that’s new coming with the next-generation version. Gearbox confirmed that they’re going to create some new game add-ons. While these won’t be full-fledged story DLCs, they will bring some content for players to explore. The first one will bring a brand new game mode and new skill trees for all Vault Hunters, including some new Action Skills. If you’re interested in what these additions will add to your gameplay, be sure to check out this post.

As with many free upgrades, Gearbox said that it’s planning to introduce Borderlands 3 cross-play and cross-progression. However, we’ll have to wait a bit to enjoy it – these additions are slated to go live sometime in 2021.

From what we gather, it seems like Gearbox doesn’t want to let down their passionate community by leaving them behind. And that’s always a good thing! We can only hope to get more Borderlands 3 content in the future. We’ll surely keep you posted!
