If you’re a fan of Overwatch, you might be wondering what the hell is going on with the game’s sequel that was first announced back in 2019… During this years’ BlizzCon Online, the development team talked a lot about the progress of their labor, however, one particularly interesting topic didn’t get much attention during that panel. PvP is the heart and soul of Overwatch, so it’s natural that most fans felt a lot of uncertainty when this topic was somewhat ignored. Factor in game’s director Jeff Kaplan leaving the company and you get a lot of Overwatch 2 doomsayers sharing their opinions online lately. Fear not, fellow heroes! Overwatch’s new game director Aaron Keller made his Developer Update video debut and promised that more news about Overwatch 2’s PvP is coming our way next week.

While Aaron Keller didn’t say much in terms of content, he announced that next Thursday, on May 20th, Blizzard will host a special 2-hour-long livestream focused solely on Overwatch 2’s PvP. According to the announcement, the presentation will feature appearances by the Overwatch development team and Overwatch League teams talking about all things related to Overwatch 2’s PvP. The event will be streamed live on the game’s YouTube and Twitch channels.

Naturally, we can expect to see some new Overwatch 2 maps featuring the new Overwatch 2 competitive mode Push. Additionally, we expect to see the commentary about the game’s hero balance and learn more about the balance changes that will affect tank, damage dealer, and healer roles. Who knows, maybe we’ll get some surprise announcements? After all, Overwatch’s 5th anniversary is just a few days away, so a new hero announcement would be much appreciated.

It’s also worth mentioning that this special presentation will get a follow-up. On May 24th, the Overwatch development team will be participating in a special Reddit AMA session and will answer fan’s questions about Overwatch 2. Time to get excited!

If you need a reminder about all things related to Overwatch 2, we suggest you check out BlizzConline’s Deep Dive panel about the game.

Overwatch 2 currently has no release date. Earlier Blizzard confirmed that Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 won’t be released in 2021. 2022 perhaps? All we can do is wait for some more news and hope that next week we’ll get a chance to talk more about the future of the game.
