Just recently, Nintendo has released its half-year report which has some interesting numbers. One that caught our attention is the number of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game copies sold. According to the data, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has now sold over 15,7 million copies worldwide which makes it the best selling fighting game ever released.

Previously, this title was held by none other than Capcom. Counting only single-game sales (not the full franchise) Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior was sold more than 15,5 million times. Having in mind that Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior was released in 1991 this shouldn’t be a big surprise.

However, the latest Nintendo fighter managed to break this record in a very short duration. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was released just last year and quickly caught up with the competition. According to Nintendo, it took only 11 days to sell 3 million copies of the game, so the new champion was seen coming from a mile away…

If you’re looking for additional reasons for such popularity, you should note that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is not your everyday fighting game. If features all the fighters released on Smash series over the years which means that the game had a huge appeal for various other fandoms. It even features 2 iconic characters from Street Fighter series – Ryu and Ken.

If you own a Nintendo Switch and never had a chance to try Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, be sure to check out our price for the title. We believe that it’s one of the greatest console games, alongside being the undisputed champion of the fighting game genre.
