In surprising news, PlayStation announced that after nearly 3 decades at the company Shawn Layden is departing from Sony. The news was announced via Tweet on PlayStation’s account. Here’s the full message:

Shawn Layden has started his career at Sony nearly 30 years ago as a public relations manager in 1987. Later, he became the right hand for the founder of Sony, Akio Morita. His career path led through many other senior positions at the company until he landed as the president of PlayStation in the US.

Now, fans of gaming know Shawn Layden as the face of PlayStation who’d usually take the stage at the biggest community events such as E3, The Game Awards, and others. However, as Sony is gearing up for the PlayStation 5 reveal, it seems that fans will have to wave their goodbyes for Shawn and welcome his replacement, though no information on who it might be is currently known.

To be honest, the whole suddenness of this news is a bit strange. Shawn’s personal accounts are still silent with no explanation about why he made a decision to leave PlayStation. Who knows, it might be that Shawn isn’t leaving gaming just yet… We hope to learn more in the coming days.
