Nintendo Direct presentation featured a lot of news regarding games, however, the biggest surprise of the entire stream was the final announcement – Nintendo Confirmed that Splatoon 3 is in the works and should be released sometime in 2022.

It’s worth noting that this new trailer doesn’t feature the actual gameplay footage so it’s not clear whether the game will be something reminiscent of the original Splatoon or Splatoon 2 or something entirely different.

The description of the game states:

“In the wake of chaos, enter the sun-scorched Splatlands and the new city, Splatsville, inhabited by battle-hardened Inklings and Octolings. New weapons, moves, and more await, so be sure to keep an eye out for updates in the future.”

There’s also a big Twitter thread on the official Nintendo of America’s account. You can find some more information about the game there (be sure to scroll the comment section):

If you’ve never played any of the Splatoon games, you should know that it’s an interesting third-person shooter game in which you shoot paint. The game features a single-player campaign as well as the multiplayer mode in which you’re tasked to control squids and octopuses, use colored ink to cover ground, attack your foes with all your might, and complete multiple challenges.
