Apparently, EA is currently struggling to find more development resources to keep up with its release schedule. According to a recent report, EA has shifted Criterion Games (known for their Need For Speed games) from their current project, presumably a new NFS game, in order to help EA DICE studio with the development of the new Battlefield game.

The news about this EA team shuffle came from Polygon which reported that pandemic working conditions, EA DICE’s burnout, and a recent acquisition of Codemasters with a new racing game in their pipeline made reassigning Criterion a rational call.

Laura Miele, EA’s chief studios’ officer said this in a statement:

“[Battlefield] is shaping up great, the team has been working incredibly hard, they pushed hard last year, and yes, we have been working from home. And it’s hard; it’s hard to make games from home, and the [EA DICE] team is fatigued a bit.”

However, Laura Miele reiterated that reassigning Criterion doesn’t mean that the development of Need for Speed is going to be taken away from the team. It will only take a bit longer.

“They own the Need for Speed franchise; that’s why they managed the remaster. Anything that’s happening within the Need for Speed brand, they are responsible for, or things come through them to ensure that they’re on board with it.”

All of this means that the new Need For Speed game will be delayed at least until 2022 in order to push for the new Battlefield game to make its deadline. During the recent earnings call, EA representative said that the new Battlefield game should debut sometime this fall. Rumor has it that the game will be called Battlefield 6 and will once again adopt a modern-day setting.

While NFS fans might not be happy about their game being delayed in favor of a new shooter, the new Battlefield sure does sound promising. You know how they say – you win some, you lose some…

Anyway, we’re interested in your opinion. If it would be up to you to choose which of the upcoming EA games should be prioritized, what would you pick? Another Need For Speed or Battlefield 6?
