As expected, the 10th anniversary of Minecraft was full of surprises. We’ve already written about Mojang plans to release a new Minecraft AR game similar to Pokemon Go. In addition, Mojang has also revealed a new Minecraft: Dungeons game. However, the biggest announcement was the one which placed Minecraft as the biggest selling game in history.

According to Mojang’s statement, Minecraft has sold 176 million copies worldwide since the release of the game back in 2009. If that’s true, Minecraft might just become the best selling video game of all time, surpassing even Tetris. The latest data shared by The Tetris Company revealed that Tetris had 170 million lifetime sales. However, this number was revealed way back in 2010, so it’s a bit premature to crown the new king of video games.

Having in mind that Minecraft is only growing in popularity with new versions of the game being released on various new platforms, it’s safe to assume – if it didn’t catch up with Tetris yet, it will at some point in time. So, if you haven’t played Minecraft at all, it’s about time to give the game a chance – even if you don’t like the idea of a world made of blocks, Minecraft is THE GAME of our era and you should be at least familiar with it.

A good way to familiarize yourself with it is to try new versions of the game such as Minecraft Earth, an AR version of it, or Minecraft: Dungeons, an action adventure type of game designed for survival mode enthusiasts. You can check out the trailers of both games below.
