Nowadays, more and more games are being adapted to other forms of media. TV series based on popular video game franchises is the latest trend in the industry with projects like The Witcher, Castlevania, Halo and so on. One more game to join this ever-growing line-up is Final Fantasy XIV.

Sony Pictures Television announced that the company is currently working with Hivemind (a studio who is currently working with Netflix’s The Witcher) and producing live-action TV series based on a popular MMORPG franchize, initially launched back in 2013. According to the producers, the new series will be set in the world of Eorzea and will focus on “the struggle between magic and technology in a quest to bring peace to a land in conflict.”

While the show is currently in development, not many details are revealed. We don’t know the exact name of the new TV show, nor the approximate launch date. However, we do know that Hivemind hired Ben Lustig and Jake Thornton to be the writers of the new show. They broke-in in 2014 with their spec script, Winter’s Knight, an origin story of Santa Claus which sold for 1 million dollars.

It’s also worth mentioning that the new TV show won’t be the first to explore the Final Fantasy XIV events. In 2017, Netflix released an original live-action series called Final Fantasy XIV Dad of Light which was focusing on family relationships, namely, a father and son trying to rekindle their bond through an online role-playing game. It was based on a true story.
