Role shuffle in the video games industry is not a rare thing. However, sometimes news about certain departures make us wonder – why? The latest of such questions has risen with Drew McCoy’s announcement about his departure from Respawn Entertainment.

If you don’t know who the hell Drew McCoy is, we have you covered. He used to be a lead producer for the company and was one of the co-founders of Respawn Entertainment back in 2010 when he and a bunch of other guys fled Infinity Ward. This guy supervised the development of Titanfall, Titanfall 2, and Apex Legends. Prior Respawn, he also worked on a bunch of Call of Duty games.

Drew McCoy announced his departure via Twitter message, saying that he won’t be leaving the gaming industry just yet. However, he didn’t share his future plans:

While it’s a sad day for everyone at Respawn Entertainment, it’s worth mentioning that this is not the first big talent leak in recent times. At the end of 2019, Christin Sanchez, one other game producer left the company to join Sony Santa Monica. Vince Zampella, CEO of Respawn also split his role and took up the lead of another gaming studio DICE LA.

While these shuffles at Respawn do seem a bit suspicious we can only hope that these role shuffles won’t affect their games. We have our fingers crossed!
