Butterfly Knife

★ Butterfly Knife is a Covert CS2 knife with a curved silver-gray blade and dark, articulated handles. Its restrained appearance draws attention to the metal contours, handle inserts and pivot hardware rather than colorful artwork. The look suits players who prefer understated equipment with distinctive construction. Standard and StatTrak™ versions are available, giving buyers a choice between the regular item and a kill-counter version.

Description

★ Butterfly Knife is a CS2 knife item built around a custom-designed balisong form. Its freely pivoting blade opens through the hinged handle sections, giving the weapon a distinctive mechanical identity. The silver-gray blade contrasts with charcoal handle frames and muted gray-green inserts. A bright cutting edge and darker upper facets make the curved blade profile easy to distinguish. Small fasteners, circular openings and diagonal grooves add detail without introducing a painted graphic. This restrained combination suits players who want their knife's shape and construction to carry the visual interest. Buyers can choose between Standard and StatTrak versions, depending on whether a kill counter matters to their loadout. When comparing listings, the exact item title and version are more useful starting points than assumptions about exterior availability.

History and Origin

The ★ Butterfly Knife is associated with the Operation Breakout Weapon Case, which first went on sale on June 23, 2014. That date marks the case's debut, rather than a separately confirmed release date for the knife. An individual designer is not confirmed for this item. Valve retired the rare drop pool on December 17, 2025. As of October 9, 2026, the Operation Breakout Weapon Case no longer drops. Existing cases can still be purchased on the market and opened, preserving the case-opening acquisition route despite that retirement. Buying the knife on the Steam Community Market offers an alternative to obtaining it through a case. Player-to-player trades provide another current route, with Standard and StatTrak versions available to compare.

Finish Style

The blade has a muted silver-gray surface, with a brighter cutting edge tracing its curved outline. Dark angular areas across the upper face divide the metal into distinct visual sections. Faint mottling and fine surface lines prevent the blade from looking completely uniform. No colored illustration or lettering appears on the visible blade. Charcoal frames outline the curved handle halves and provide the darkest parts of the design. Elongated gray-green inserts sit inside those frames, adding a subdued color contrast. Circular openings and small silver fittings emphasize the construction around the handles and pivot points. Short slanted grooves introduce additional detail without overwhelming the handle panels. Overall, the appearance relies on exposed metal, shaped components and mechanical detailing rather than a decorative painted motif.

Float Value

When comparing ★ Butterfly Knife listings, distinguish the item version from cosmetic condition. Check each listing's details rather than inferring condition from its Standard or StatTrak label. Standard and StatTrak versions are available; these version choices should be kept separate from cosmetic condition.

Rarity and Popularity

★ Butterfly Knife has the Covert rarity grade. No exact case-opening probability is confirmed, so its rarity label should not be converted into numerical odds. Opening the Operation Breakout Weapon Case is an acquisition route, while direct purchases and player trades let buyers select the intended item without relying on an opening outcome.

Why it’s Popular:

• Distinctive balisong construction with a freely pivoting blade

• Restrained silver-gray and charcoal palette

• Detailed handles without colorful artwork

• Standard and StatTrak options for different ownership preferences

Price Range

The live ★ Butterfly Knife price range is — to —. These bounds cover the whole item, not a particular version or exterior. Standard and StatTrak listings should be compared separately, without assuming a fixed price relationship between them. Check each listing's asking price rather than treating the range as a quote for every offer. For a useful CS2 skin price check, match the exact item name and version before evaluating offers to buy, sell or trade.

How to Obtain

1. Buy Directly through Eneba Skins

One of the fastest and most straightforward options is to purchase skins directly through Eneba Skins. You can browse available CS2 skins, compare prices, and choose the items that best fit your budget.

2. Open the Operation Breakout Weapon Case

Open the Operation Breakout Weapon Case for a chance to obtain ★ Butterfly Knife. The case no longer drops, but existing cases can still be bought on the market and opened. An opening does not guarantee this knife, making a direct purchase the more targeted acquisition route.

3. Buy on the Steam Community Market

Buy ★ Butterfly Knife on the Steam Community Market and compare Standard and StatTrak entries. Confirm the exact item title and version before weighing the asking price. This route allows buyers to select a listed item instead of depending on a case-opening result.

4. Trade with Other Players

Player-to-player trading offers another way to acquire ★ Butterfly Knife without opening a case. Check whether the offered item is Standard or StatTrak and confirm that its name matches the intended knife. Compare the proposed exchange with current purchase listings before accepting.

Trading and Investment Considerations

The retired Operation Breakout Weapon Case receives no fresh drops, but existing cases can still be opened and introduce additional knives. Compare Standard and StatTrak listings separately rather than assuming their asking prices move together. A sustained demand or price trend is not established, so the supply argument should not be mistaken for a resale forecast.

Reasons it Holds Value

• Retired case source limits fresh case supply

• Distinctive pivoting blade and detailed handle construction

• Standard and StatTrak versions offer separate ownership options

• Restrained appearance suits understated loadouts

The editorial investment rating for ★ Butterfly Knife is medium. Retired case supply supports the holding argument, but its substantial purchase cost warrants caution without an established demand trend. Existing cases can still produce knives, and uncertain resale demand remains the main risk rather than a basis for expecting returns.
