Short Description

The ★ Butterfly Knife | Stained is a CS2 knife skin with a mottled silver-gray blade and dark charcoal handles. Its cloudy staining gives the metal an uneven appearance without visible text or artwork. The restrained palette suits players who prefer neutral colors and textured metal finishes. Exterior choices run from Factory New to Battle-Scarred, with standard and StatTrak™ versions but no Souvenir option.

Description

The ★ Butterfly Knife | Stained is a CS2 knife skin built around a subdued, weathered-metal appearance. Its balisong design uses a freely pivoting blade that opens in a fan-like motion. The Stained finish adds a Patina treatment rather than a graphic-led design. Silver-gray metal and darker cloudy patches give the blade an uneven, deliberately marked surface. Charcoal handles keep the overall palette restrained while their inset panels echo the blade's mottling. This look suits players who prefer neutral colors and visible metal texture over illustrated artwork. Buyers can choose a standard knife or a StatTrak™ version across the available exterior range. When comparing listings, the exterior, exact float value and version distinguish individual copies beyond their shared finish name.

History and Origin

★ Butterfly Knife | Stained entered CS:GO on July 1, 2014. It arrived with the Operation Breakout update and its Operation Breakout Weapon Case. Valve created the skin rather than a community designer. Valve retired the rare drop pool on December 17, 2025. As of October 9, 2026, the Operation Breakout Weapon Case no longer drops. Existing cases can still be bought on the market, so retirement has not removed case opening as an acquisition route. Each opening consumes an existing case without new drops replacing it. Finished knives are also available through direct market purchases and trades with other players.

Finish Style

The Patina finish is produced by treating the surface with droplets of lemon and mustard. The resulting look centers on irregular discoloration, not a painted illustration or text. Across the curved blade, a silver-gray base is interrupted by cloudy dark gray and muted blue-gray patches. A bright silver cutting edge traces the lower blade toward its pointed tip. The curved handle sections are predominantly dark charcoal, creating a darker frame around the exposed metal. Elongated silver-gray insets carry mottling similar to the blade, tying the handle and finish together. Circular holes, small screws and short diagonal grooves give the handles visible structural detail. With no visible lettering or artwork, the uneven stains provide the design's main pattern and contrast.

Float Value

The float value of ★ Butterfly Knife | Stained ranges from 0.00 to 1.00. Available exteriors are Factory New, Minimal Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred. Standard and StatTrak™ versions are available, while no Souvenir version exists; version choice is separate from the knife's cosmetic condition.

Rarity and Popularity

★ Butterfly Knife | Stained has the Covert rarity grade. Its chance of appearing from the Operation Breakout Weapon Case is 0.02%, making an opening an uncertain route to this specific finish. Professional player glowiing owns the knife, although that ownership does not establish broad market demand.

Why it’s Popular:

• Cloudy silver-gray blade suits neutral-color loadouts

• Butterfly opening motion gives the weapon a distinct character

• Dark handles and bright cutting edge provide clear contrast

• Full exterior range with optional StatTrak™ versions

Price Range

The live CS2 skin price range for ★ Butterfly Knife | Stained is $467.00 to $1,783.93. These bounds cover the skin as a whole, rather than fixed prices for particular exteriors or versions. Compare Factory New through Battle-Scarred listings separately, because exterior labels alone do not describe each knife's exact float value. Standard and StatTrak™ listings should also be checked as distinct purchase options. Before choosing a copy, compare its current asking price, float and visible finish instead of assuming every listing offers equivalent value.

How to Obtain

1. Buy Directly through Eneba Skins

One of the fastest and most straightforward options is to purchase skins directly through Eneba Skins. You can browse available CS2 skins, compare prices, and choose the items that best fit your budget.

2. Open the Operation Breakout Weapon Case

Open an Operation Breakout Weapon Case for a chance at this knife. The skin's chance is 0.02%, so opening is not a reliable way to obtain a specific copy. The case no longer drops, but existing cases can still be purchased and opened.

3. Buy on the Steam Community Market

Buy the knife directly on the Steam Community Market rather than relying on a case outcome. Compare the listing's exterior and standard or StatTrak™ version, then check the item details before purchasing.

4. Trade with Other Players

The knife can also be obtained by trading with other players. Confirm the exact exterior and whether the offered item is standard or StatTrak™ before accepting a swap. Check the item's float and appearance rather than treating the finish name as a complete description.

Trading and Investment Considerations

New Breakout cases no longer drop, so openings reduce an existing case supply rather than drawing from newly dropped cases. That limits replenishment, but professional ownership alone does not show how quickly a particular knife will sell. For a buy, sell or trade decision, compare exterior, exact float value and version, and avoid assuming reliable short-term demand.

Reasons it Holds Value

• No new Breakout cases enter through drops

• Distinctive silver-gray Patina finish

• Standard and StatTrak™ buying options

• Professional ownership includes glowiing

The investment outlook is medium-to-good based on limited replenishment from existing Operation Breakout Weapon Cases, though uncertain resale demand limits confidence in that outlook. Its substantial purchase price makes entry cost important, while resale demand and future price direction remain uncertain.
