Short Description

★ Butterfly Knife | Rust Coat is a CS2 knife skin with a deliberately corroded Patina finish. Rusty brown and orange patches cover the gray blade, while dark handles keep the palette restrained. Its industrial look suits players who prefer weathered surfaces over decorative artwork. It comes in Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred, with standard and StatTrak™ versions available.

Description

★ Butterfly Knife | Rust Coat applies a weathered finish to the Butterfly Knife's curved blade and paired handles in CS2. The weapon's freely pivoting blade gives its opening movement a distinctive fan-shaped motion. Rather than disguising corrosion, Rust Coat makes it the central feature of the design. A bright silver cutting edge contrasts with the mottled blade and dark handle sections. With no lettering or artwork, the knife draws attention through texture rather than decorative graphics. Its subdued colors suit muted loadouts, while the uneven rust marks give it a visibly rough character. Professional players f0rest, DANK1NG, and skullz have owned this skin. Buyers can compare its exterior, exact float, and standard or StatTrak version before choosing a particular copy.

History and Origin

★ Butterfly Knife | Rust Coat debuted in CS:GO on March 15, 2017, with the Spectrum Case. Its release was part of the Spectrum Case Skins update. Valve created the finish rather than a community designer. The original finish description presents the knife as functional despite corrosion across its exterior surfaces. Its flavor text connects visible scars with character, reinforcing the intentionally weathered appearance. Today, the knife can be obtained through existing Spectrum Case and Spectrum 2 Case openings. Both cases stopped dropping when Valve retired the rare drop pool on December 17, 2025. Existing cases can still be bought and opened, so retirement did not remove that acquisition route. Direct marketplace purchases and player trades also provide access to knives already in circulation.

Finish Style

Rust Coat uses the Patina finish style, making surface corrosion the main visual element. The curved blade has a gray base interrupted by irregular rusty brown and orange patches. These uneven areas create a mottled appearance rather than a uniform color treatment. A thin silver edge follows the blade's lower curve, adding a bright outline against the darker surface. The curved handle sections are mostly charcoal, with elongated gray-brown insets carrying similar rust mottling. Circular holes and small silver pivot screws break up the handle surfaces. Short diagonal grooves add detail without introducing artwork or lettering. Together, the restrained hardware colors and patchy corrosion give the knife a rough, industrial appearance.

Float Value

The float value of ★ Butterfly Knife | Rust Coat ranges from 0.40 to 1.00. Its available exteriors are Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred, with no Factory New, Minimal Wear, or Field-Tested versions. Standard and StatTrak™ versions are available, but there is no Souvenir version; these options are separate from exterior condition.

Rarity and Popularity

★ Butterfly Knife | Rust Coat has the Covert rarity grade. Its stated chance from the Spectrum Case is 0.0085%, a figure that applies specifically to that case. Retired case drops limit fresh case supply, but remaining cases, marketplace purchases, and trades keep acquisition routes available.

Why it’s Popular:

• Rust mottling gives the blade a distinctive weathered appearance

• Dark handles suit restrained, industrial-looking loadouts

• The Butterfly Knife has a distinctive opening motion

• Standard and StatTrak versions offer different ownership options

Price Range

The live ★ Butterfly Knife | Rust Coat price range is $445.00 to $3,121.55. These bounds cover the whole skin rather than a particular exterior or version. Compare Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred listings while keeping standard and StatTrak options separate. Check the exact float value and listing images instead of treating every copy within an exterior as interchangeable. For a useful CS2 skin price comparison, match those details when deciding whether to buy, sell, or trade.

How to Obtain

1. Buy Directly through Eneba Skins

One of the fastest and most straightforward options is to purchase skins directly through Eneba Skins. You can browse available CS2 skins, compare prices, and choose the items that best fit your budget.

2. Open a Weapon Case

Open a Spectrum Case or Spectrum 2 Case for a chance to receive this knife. The Rust Coat chance from the Spectrum Case is 0.0085%, so opening a case is not a guaranteed route to this finish. Neither case drops anymore, but existing cases remain available to buy and open.

3. Buy on the Steam Community Market

Buy ★ Butterfly Knife | Rust Coat directly through the Steam Community Market rather than relying on a case result. Check the exterior, exact float, and standard or StatTrak version before selecting a listing.

4. Trade with Other Players

Trade with another player for a specific ★ Butterfly Knife | Rust Coat copy. Confirm that the offered knife's exterior, float, and version match the intended item before agreeing to the exchange.

Trading and Investment Considerations

Retired Spectrum and Spectrum 2 Case drops limit fresh case supply, although opening existing cases can still introduce additional knives. Professional ownership provides evidence of interest, but does not establish current trading volume or future demand. Compare matching exterior and version listings rather than assuming rarity alone ensures an easy resale.

Reasons it Holds Value

• No new Spectrum or Spectrum 2 Case drops

• Documented ownership by professional players

• Distinctive rust patina on the Butterfly Knife

• Standard and StatTrak options for different preferences

The editorial investment rating is medium-to-good, supported by retired case supply and documented professional ownership. The main risk is uncertain resale demand: those factors do not establish sustained price growth or guarantee a buyer at the desired price.
