Elden Ring Review – The Ultimate Open-World Soulslike Challenge

Elden Ring is considered FromSoftware’s magnum opus for a reason. It’s one of the best open world RPGs ever made, complete with top-of-the-line soulslike combat, gripping lore, and terrifyingly gorgeous visuals. Here’s my full review and verdict.

A Pick of Next Fest Demos: Cosy Balls, Dungeon Cards, City Building, and Cthulhu

The latest Steam Next Fest is running until June 22, bringing with it hundreds of new demos from indie devs through to big-budget games. I had the chance to play through some demos that cover wildly different genres: track-building, deckbuilding, building…buildings, and, er, sunken buildings.  Cozy Marbles First up is a charming marble run trackbuilder …

Solarpunk Review: A Survival-Crafting Sandbox That Needs More Work

Solarpunk is out now on Xbox Series X/S, PC, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2 (I played it on PC). It’s developed by two-man studio Cyberwave, published by rokaplay, and it managed to make quite a splash in the lead-up to its release. It’s a cosy survival/crafting sandbox but one that’s hindered by counterintuitive game design. …

Thick as Thieves Review: Trapped in the Shadow of Other Stealth Games

Thick as Thieves is the debut title from OtherSide Entertainment, a new studio founded by Warren Spector (Studio Director of Deus Ex and Thief: Deadly Shadows) and Paul Neurath (Exec Producer for Thief: The Dark Project and Thief: The Metal Age). It was released on May 20 on PC via Steam (it’s coming to PS5 and …

Call of the Elder Gods Review: The Illusion of Choice

Call of the Elder Gods is out from May 12 on all major platforms (I played it on PS5). Developed by Out of the Blue Games and published by Kwalee, it’s a Lovecraftian adventure light on horror and heavy on fantastic puzzles. I really enjoyed it…with a few caveats.  Great (Old Ones) Expectations Is there …

GRIDbeat! Review: Rage-Quit to the Beat

GRIDbeat! is the second original title from Ridiculous Games and part of the starting roster from resurrected publisher Acclaim. It’s a rhythm action game with a neon 90s aesthetic and pounding synthwave score, plus a decent variety of enemies and tricks up its digital sleeve. It’s also punishingly hard. It’s available now on Nintendo Switch …

MOUSE: P.I. for Hire Review: Cheese Louise!

Why I oughta…! MOUSE: P.I. for Hire is a cartoon noir FPS stuffed with so many cheese puns it’ll make you lactose intolerant. Developed by Fumi Games and published by PlaySide, it’s out now on all major platforms (I played it on PC). It’s got moxie, but is that enough to warrant hiring this rodent …

The Shore Review: It’s R’lyeh Weird

The Shore is a short Lovecraftian horror developed and published by Dragonis Games, and it’s out now on PS5 as an “Enhanced Edition.” It’s super weird and I love it, but your mileage will likely vary depending on your tolerance for ‘Tentacles = Lovecraft.’  Normally I add a trailer for a game but this time …

Darwin’s Paradox! Review: (Almost) Too Smart for Its Own Good

Darwin’s Paradox! is the debut title from ZDT Studio, it’s published by Konami, and it’s out now on all major platforms (I played the PS5 version). It’s absolutely stunning to look at but it’s hard as nails. Luckily, it’s also got enough charm to keep you invested in its goofy sci-fi story, as Darwin gets …

Tombwater Review: The Good, The Bugs, and The Fugly

Chances are Tombwater already caught your eye, especially if you paid attention to the most recent Steam Next Fest, where the demo gave people a taste of its horrorcentric Wild West Zelda vibe. Now, the full version is available on PC via Steam. It’s published by Midwest Games and developed by indie studio Moth Atlas. …
