Roblox Reveals Roblox Cube, a Free Generative AI Tool

Roblox, the popular game that doubles as a game development engine, is set to include an AI-powered asset-creation tool. However, it’s not just for Roblox users, as anyone will be able to download and use it whether they have the source game or not.
The announcement was made on the Roblox Corporation website on March 17, 2025, in a lengthy and very detailed post by Anupam Singh, Vice President of Engineering, and Nick Tornow, Vice President of Creator Engineering. Together, they detailed what Cube is already capable of, and what it could be capable of in the future.
“Cube 3D generates 3D models and environments directly from text and, in the future, image inputs,” they said in the combined news post.
“Cube will underpin many of the AI tools we’ll develop in the years to come, including highly complex scene-generation tools. It will ultimately be a multimodal model, trained on text, images, video, and other types of input and will integrate with our existing AI creation tools.”
AI Creativity
The idea of AI asset generation and human creativity going hand-in-hand is a thorny subject, but both Singh and Tornow seem convinced that Cube can and will help gamers, and developers, create more art faster.
“With Cube, we intend to make 3D creation more efficient. With 3D mesh generation, developers can quickly explore new creative directions and increase their productivity by deciding rapidly which to move forward with.”
Cube also isn’t even the first foray in AI that Roblox, the game and company, has made. Earlier this year it released Assistant, an AI helper for Roblox Studio, to provide developers with the means to streamline their workflow.
Open And Transparent
Roblox has been in the news before, due to questions of player safety, and one way the company has sought to deal with this is through transparency in its AI safety laws. It also helped found ROOST, a non-profit dedicated to tackling important areas in digital safety by promoting open-source safety tools.
Cube is being released as open source, meaning that it can be used outside the Roblox game ecosystem, and be tweaked and refined by other developers. Although the news post doesn’t give a date, it does say that Cube is going to be made available in March 2025.
