Drop Brews Up a Signature Series Cappuccino Keyboard

Renowned audio and keyboard design company Drop have served up a fresh mechanical keyboard in a delicious coffee layout. No beans were roasted or ground to make the Signature Series Cappuccino, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been brewed to the company’s typical high standards.

The Cappuccino features an 88 key TKL (Tenkeyless) layout, polycarbonate case, and hot-swappable switch sockets, plus other customization options common to Drop’s keyboards.

“Further down the specs list, you’ll find a full list of enthusiast components, including linear Gateron Yellow KS-3 Switches, interchangeable polycarbonate weights and switch plates, and a full array of typing foam,” the company said in a press release.

Calling All Barista-Gamers

Gamers who take as much pride in making a keyboard suit their exact tastes as a barista enjoys making the perfect coffee will likely get the most out of the Cappuccino. Every keyboard in the Signature Series shares some design features, but each offers enough differences to ensure users can really express themselves.

The Signature Series Cappuchino is gasket-mounted with removable gaskets, has per-key south-facing RGB lighting, and a magnetically detachable Latte Decorative Case. The overall keyboard uses Drop’s distinctive CSTM80 build, which means users can not only alter everything about the keys themselves, but also the weight of the keyboard too.

The Cappuccino uses doubleshot ABS keys for better colour vibrancy and variety than PBT keys. These can be easily switched for other ABS keycaps with laser etched, front-facing, shine-through legends, commonly used with the south-facing RGB lights. Users can also customize these thanks to an STM32 chipset with QMK, VIA and Vial support.

The Drop Design Principle

The Cappuccino is the latest keyboard Drop has created according to its three core ideas: concept, development and production. What makes these a little different to similar companies is the inclusion of user-feedback every step of the way to ensure designs meet expectation and demand.

Drop also partners with well-known brands, such as Lord of The Rings, and like any true hipster coffee aficionado, offers very specific customization options like artisanal keycaps for its devices.

I’m also really keen on indie dev news. My first experience with video games was through the Game and Watch version of Donkey Kong, because I’m older than I look.
