About this skin

How is a skin affected by its quality?

Quality concerns the skin's cosmetic condition rather than the weapon's performance. The Basilisk spans 0.00 to 0.68 and is available in every exterior from Factory New to Battle-Scarred.

How does the rarity of a skin work?

Rarity is a skin's grade, while case-opening odds describe its acquisition chance. The Basilisk is Restricted and has a stated 4.0% chance from the Operation Vanguard Weapon Case.

How much does M4A1-S | Basilisk cost?

M4A1-S | Basilisk ranges from $6.67 to $53.36. Compare the exterior, float and version of individual listings.

Which case contains M4A1-S | Basilisk?

Short Description

M4A1-S | Basilisk is a CS2 rifle skin for the Counter-Terrorist side, featuring an etched creature on a dark metallic receiver. Silver-gray highlights contrast with mostly black furniture, keeping the artwork focused on the weapon's body. Its restrained appearance suits players who prefer detailed metalwork over bright colors. All exterior grades are available, alongside StatTrak™ and Souvenir versions.

Description

M4A1-S | Basilisk gives the silenced Counter-Terrorist rifle a creature-themed finish without covering the entire weapon in artwork. Its Patina finish places the basilisk etching against a dark receiver with silver-gray highlights. Plain black furniture frames the detailed center, giving the design a subdued appearance when viewed as a complete rifle. The underlying weapon offers quieter shots, reduced recoil and better accuracy, while holding fewer rounds than the unsilenced alternative. This combination suits players looking for a dark loadout with a distinctive focal point rather than a colorful surface pattern. The available exterior grades let buyers choose a cosmetic condition without changing the finish's identity. Standard, StatTrak and Souvenir copies provide separate version choices, which should be checked before selecting a listing. For a practical comparison, inspect the receiver artwork alongside the listed exterior, exact float value and version.

History and Origin

The Basilisk was released in CS:GO on November 11, 2014, alongside the Operation Vanguard Weapon Case. Its introduction formed part of the Operation Vanguard update. Steam Workshop community designer Gaunt created the skin, establishing its community-designed origin. The rifle belongs to The Vanguard Collection, which also provides its collection-based trade-up route. Following the rare drop pool's retirement on December 17, 2025, the Operation Vanguard Weapon Case no longer receives new drops. Existing cases can still be purchased on the market and opened, so retirement has not removed the case-opening route. Already-created copies can also be bought directly or acquired through player trades, independently of opening a container. Trade Up Contracts remain another acquisition method, although the collection's random Restricted result does not guarantee the Basilisk.

Finish Style

The Patina finish gives the Basilisk a restrained metallic character rather than a bright painted appearance. Dark charcoal and black establish the rifle's overall palette, with lighter surfaces providing contrast around the detailed artwork. Silver-gray highlights on the receiver help distinguish the etched creature from the surrounding dark metal. Curved, textured lines form the basilisk's body and head, concentrating the visual detail on the receiver's side. The barrel and suppressor also carry silver-gray highlights, extending the metallic accents beyond the central motif. A dark gray magazine introduces long vertical ribs, with pale highlights tracing their edges. The ribbed handguard, pistol grip, carry handle and stock remain mostly plain black instead of repeating the creature artwork. Together, these elements create a focused design where the etched receiver supplies character and the surrounding parts keep the silhouette understated.

Float Value

The M4A1-S | Basilisk float value ranges from 0.00 to 0.68. Its available exteriors are Factory New, Minimal Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred, so no exterior grade is excluded. StatTrak and Souvenir versions are also available, and buyers should check the version label separately from the cosmetic condition indicated by exterior and float.

Rarity and Popularity

The Basilisk has the Restricted rarity grade. Its stated chance from the Operation Vanguard Weapon Case is 4.0%, or about 1 in 25 openings, rather than a guaranteed result. Documented professional owners include jdm64, byali and mixwell, although ownership alone does not establish current market demand.

Why it’s Popular:

• Etched basilisk artwork gives the receiver a distinctive focal point

• Dark colors suit restrained loadouts

• Silver-gray highlights complement the mostly black furniture

• StatTrak and Souvenir options broaden the available choices

Price Range

The live M4A1-S | Basilisk price range is $6.67 to $53.36. These bounds cover the skin as a whole and do not represent fixed prices for particular exteriors or versions. Compare Factory New through Battle-Scarred listings alongside their exact float values rather than relying on the exterior label alone. Standard, StatTrak and Souvenir copies offer different buying options, so matching the version is essential when evaluating a CS2 skin price. Before choosing to buy, sell or trade, compare equivalent versions and exteriors and inspect the particular copy being offered.

How to Obtain

1. Buy Directly through Eneba Skins

One of the fastest and most straightforward options is to purchase skins directly through Eneba Skins. You can browse available CS2 skins, compare prices, and choose the items that best fit your budget.

2. Open the Operation Vanguard Weapon Case

Open the Operation Vanguard Weapon Case for a chance to receive the Basilisk. The case no longer drops, but existing containers can still be bought on the market and opened. The skin's stated chance is 4.0%, so opening the case is not a direct way to select this rifle.

3. Trade Up Contracts

A Trade Up Contract can use 10 Mil-Spec Grade skins from The Vanguard Collection to produce 1 Restricted skin from that collection. The Basilisk is a possible result, but the outcome is random among the collection's Restricted skins. This route exchanges eligible inputs for a chance at the finish rather than a guaranteed copy.

4. Buy on the Steam Community Market

Buy an existing Basilisk directly through the Steam Community Market instead of relying on a random case result. Compare the available exterior and version labels, then check the copy's float where available. Keep standard, StatTrak and Souvenir listings separate when assessing comparable offers.

5. Trade with Other Players

The Basilisk can also be acquired by trading with other players. Confirm the item's exterior, float and version before agreeing to an exchange, then compare similar listings when judging the proposed trade.

Trading and Investment Considerations

The retired case receives no new drops, but existing cases and Trade Up Contracts can still add Basilisk copies to circulation. Professional ownership provides documented visibility, while continuing buyer demand and resale speed remain uncertain. Compare standard, StatTrak and Souvenir copies by exterior and float rather than assuming every version has the same trading prospects.

Reasons it Holds Value

• Retired case no longer receives new drops

• Documented professional ownership

• Distinctive receiver etching and restrained metallic styling

• StatTrak and Souvenir versions expand collecting options

The editorial investment rating is medium, supported by retired case supply, documented professional ownership and the available version choices. The main risk is that existing cases and trade-ups can still produce skins while future buyer interest remains uncertain. This is an opinion, not financial advice or a promise of appreciation.
