M249 | System Lock

M249 | System Lock is a CS2 Heavy weapon skin with a red, dark gray and black sci-fi design. Angular panels cover the machine gun's body, while the bright magazine and stock give the finish its strongest color accents. The look suits players building a red-and-black loadout with technical styling. All listed exteriors are available, alongside StatTrak™ and Souvenir versions.

Description

M249 | System Lock brings a Custom Paint Job finish to the M249 machine gun in CS2. Its design uses segmented panels and narrow accents rather than a single uninterrupted color across the weapon. The red magazine and stock draw attention, while the darker receiver gives the artwork a contrasting background. The M249 itself favors open-area use, combining accuracy and substantial ammunition capacity with a slower fire rate. System Lock suits players who prefer mechanical, sci-fi styling over organic patterns or elaborate illustrations. Its available exterior range gives buyers options for choosing a particular cosmetic condition without changing the underlying design. Standard, StatTrak and Souvenir versions also provide separate choices when comparing otherwise similar copies. Buyers should check the version, exact float value and item preview together, since the finish name alone does not describe an individual listing.

History and Origin

M249 | System Lock was released on January 8, 2015, alongside the Chroma Case. Its introduction came through the "Chroma Case Skins" update. The artwork was created by Nextgenz, a Steam Workshop community designer. The skin belongs to The Chroma Collection, connecting its collection identity with its original case source. Valve retired the rare drop pool on December 17, 2025. The Chroma Case consequently no longer drops, so new case drops do not replenish that acquisition route. Existing Chroma Cases can still be bought on the market and opened, keeping the original case-opening method available. Finished copies can also be purchased through marketplaces or exchanged through player trades, separately from opening the case.

Finish Style

System Lock uses a Custom Paint Job built around red, dark gray and black sci-fi artwork. The receiver combines dark panels with brighter red sections and narrow accents that divide the surface into distinct areas. The large box magazine is mostly red, interrupted by darker angular shapes rather than a uniform block of color. Thin border lines and small pale markings add finer detail around that magazine artwork. The stock continues the bright red palette, with darker geometric shading giving its panels additional definition. In contrast, the grip and barrel remain dark gray, keeping those parts visually restrained. Most of the artwork sits around the body, magazine and stock, leaving the long barrel relatively plain. Angular stripes, segmented blocks and faint technical markings bring these separate parts together into a consistent science-fiction design.

Float Value

M249 | System Lock has a float range of 0.00 to 0.80. Its available exteriors are Factory New, Minimal Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred, so none of these exterior categories is excluded. StatTrak and Souvenir versions also exist, but version availability is separate from the cosmetic condition represented by exterior and float.

Rarity and Popularity

M249 | System Lock is a Mil-Spec Grade skin from The Chroma Collection. Opening a Chroma Case gives a 15.98% chance of obtaining it, although the case itself no longer drops. It is one of 51 Machinegun skins, with documented ownership by professional players kennyS, Happy and tarik.

Why it’s Popular:

• Bright red magazine and stock create a distinct color identity

• Angular sci-fi panels suit technical loadouts

• Broad exterior availability offers different cosmetic choices

• StatTrak and Souvenir versions expand collecting options

Price Range

The live M249 | System Lock price range is $0.29 to $25.00. Its accessible price level makes it an option for buyers seeking a modestly priced machine gun finish. Compare exterior and exact float value rather than assuming every copy within an exterior category has identical cosmetic condition. Standard, StatTrak and Souvenir listings should also be checked separately, without assuming a fixed price relationship between versions.

How to Obtain

1. Buy Directly through Eneba Skins

One of the fastest and most straightforward options is to purchase skins directly through Eneba Skins. You can browse available CS2 skins, compare prices, and choose the items that best fit your budget.

2. Open the Chroma Case

Open a Chroma Case with a 15.98% chance of obtaining System Lock. The case no longer drops, but existing cases remain available to buy on the market and open. This route offers a chance at the skin rather than a direct selection of its exterior or version.

3. Buy on the Steam Community Market

Buy M249 | System Lock on the Steam Community Market by choosing an available listing instead of opening a case. Check the listing's exterior and version carefully, since the skin exists in standard, StatTrak and Souvenir forms.

4. Trade with Other Players

System Lock can also be obtained through trades with other players. Confirm the exact item, exterior, float value and version before accepting, especially when comparing copies that share the same finish name.

Trading and Investment Considerations

The Chroma Case no longer receives new drops, but existing cases can still add System Lock copies through openings. Its accessible price and Mil-Spec Grade rarity favor a cautious assessment, since current buying demand and trading volume are not established. When planning to buy, sell or trade, compare matching exteriors and versions rather than treating every listing as interchangeable.

Reasons it Holds Value

• Retired case drops limit fresh case supply

• Accessible entry price

• Documented professional ownership

• Distinctive red-and-gray sci-fi artwork

The editorial investment rating is medium, supported by retired case drops, an accessible entry price and documented professional ownership. The main risk is that existing case openings can still expand skin supply while current buying demand remains uncertain. Those factors support a measured assessment rather than a prediction of future gains.
