SSG 08 | Prey

SSG 08 | Prey is a CS2 sniper rifle skin with a matte, rust-brown zebra pattern. Dark, irregular stripes cover the main body and extend across the scope housing. Its muted palette suits players who prefer earthy colors over bright accents. All exterior grades are available, alongside Souvenir versions, but there is no StatTrak™ option.

Description

SSG 08 | Prey gives the CS2 bolt-action sniper rifle an animal-inspired Spray-Paint finish. The weapon itself favors inexpensive, early-round long-range marksmanship, with low damage as its trade-off. Rust-brown coloring and dark stripes define the skin without hiding the contrast between painted surfaces and exposed metal. The patterned scope housing makes the design feel connected across the rifle rather than confined to its receiver. This look suits players building a muted loadout who still want visible detail across their weapon. Buyers can choose from every exterior grade, allowing condition preferences to guide the search for a particular copy. Souvenir versions provide another option for collectors, separate from the standard finish's cosmetic condition. When deciding to buy, sell or trade, compare the individual float value, exterior and version rather than relying on the skin name alone.

History and Origin

SSG 08 | Prey was released on September 21, 2021, with the Operation Riptide update. Its original collection placement was The 2021 Mirage Collection, which remains the relevant collection name when identifying the item. Valve created the design, rather than a community designer. The hunting theme also appears in its flavor text, which describes a repeating routine centered on pursuing prey. Today, existing copies can be purchased through the Steam Community Market or acquired through player-to-player trades. Souvenir acquisition is linked to 8 Mirage Souvenir Packages, providing a separate route to that version. Examples include the Stockholm 2021 Mirage Souvenir Package and the Antwerp 2022 Mirage Souvenir Package. These package routes concern Souvenir copies, while direct purchases and trades allow buyers to choose an existing item instead of opening a package.

Finish Style

The Prey finish uses Spray-Paint styling to combine muted rust brown with dark, irregular zebra stripes. The receiver and stock carry the main pattern, giving the rifle's body a busy appearance despite its restrained colors. Matching striped coloring extends over the scope housing, tying the optic visually to the painted body. The cheek rest and pistol grip continue that treatment across smaller surfaces, rather than introducing a separate accent color. The long barrel is mostly dark gray, providing a less patterned section ahead of the receiver. A lighter gray muzzle brake adds contrast at the front without changing the overall earthy palette. The folded bipod and exposed mechanical parts retain gray and dark-metal coloring, with pale highlights visible along some edges. Its overall matte appearance emphasizes the stripe pattern and the division between painted surfaces and exposed hardware, rather than a reflective effect.

Float Value

SSG 08 | Prey has a float range of 0.00 to 0.48. It is available in Factory New, Minimal Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred, so no exterior grade is excluded. Souvenir versions are available, with version status separate from the cosmetic condition represented by the exterior and float.

Rarity and Popularity

SSG 08 | Prey belongs to the Consumer Grade rarity tier in The 2021 Mirage Collection. Its acquisition chance from that collection is 16.0%, which should not be treated as a package-specific probability. Copies are owned by FalleN, olofmeister and tarik, although professional ownership alone does not establish market demand or future value.

Why it’s Popular:

• Muted rust-brown colors suit earthy loadouts

• Irregular zebra stripes add detail without bright accents

• Matching scope and body create a connected design

• Every exterior grade and Souvenir versions offer collecting choices

Price Range

The live SSG 08 | Prey price range is $0.02 to $11.20. Those bounds cover the whole skin, not a particular exterior or version. Its low price level makes it a budget-oriented purchase, but individual listings still need comparison. Check the exterior and exact float value, then distinguish standard copies from Souvenir listings before deciding what to buy. When comparing this CS2 skin's price, inspect the offered copy rather than assuming identical names mean identical condition or value.

How to Obtain

1. Buy Directly through Eneba Skins

One of the fastest and most straightforward options is to purchase skins directly through Eneba Skins. You can browse available CS2 skins, compare prices, and choose the items that best fit your budget.

2. Open a Souvenir Package

Open a Mirage Souvenir Package to pursue a Souvenir SSG 08 | Prey. Supported examples include the Stockholm 2021 Mirage Souvenir Package and the Antwerp 2022 Mirage Souvenir Package. This is a randomized acquisition route, not a way to select a particular Prey exterior in advance.

3. Buy on the Steam Community Market

The Steam Community Market offers a direct route to buying an existing SSG 08 | Prey. Check whether the listing is standard or Souvenir, then compare its exterior and condition with other available copies. This route suits buyers who want to select an item rather than open a package.

4. Trade with Other Players

SSG 08 | Prey can also be obtained through player-to-player trades. Confirm the item name, exterior, float value and standard or Souvenir status before assessing the proposed exchange. Compare the actual copy offered, since the finish name alone does not describe its condition.

Trading and Investment Considerations

The low purchase price makes Prey approachable, but a shrinking supply or sustained demand trend is not established. Professional ownership provides visibility without proving that the skin will attract stronger buying interest. For practical trading comparisons, separate standard and Souvenir copies, then assess their exterior and float instead of assuming a scarcity premium.

Reasons it Holds Value

• Low purchase cost for budget sniper loadouts

• Souvenir versions offer an additional collecting angle

• Ownership includes recognized professional players

• Distinctive zebra pattern across the body and scope

The investment rating is medium-to-poor: Prey offers a low entry cost and documented professional ownership, but neither proves investment demand. Its Consumer Grade classification and uncertain supply outlook limit the evidence for a scarcity-led holding strategy. The main risk is buying for appreciation without an established demand or price trend to support that expectation.
