Midnight Murder Club Massacres Its Way Into Early Access
In Midnight Murder Club, Velan Studios is inviting PC and PS5 players into the pitch-black interior of Wormwood Manor and arming them with nothing more than a gun and a flashlight. Gamers will need to use these, along with their wits and cunning, to survive against five other invitees if they want to join the secret society behind this unconventional initiation.
Alongside a new trailer, Velan Studios has also revealed further details on the Midnight Murder Club development roadmap along with a handful of new game modes.
“On top of the existing Free for All, Thief in the Night, Team Deathmatch, and Headhunters modes, we’re excited to introduce a brand-new mode that lets you break the rules like never before,” said the press release. “In the new Wildcards game mode, players will play cards from their collection that change the rules for everyone in-game in wild new ways.”
A Shot in The Dark
Midnight Murder Club is an FPS multiplayer party game, in that it’s always five players versus each other. Players can also invite up to five of their friends to join a game, for free.
As each person is armed with the same type of revolver, ammo and flashlight, it’s up to everyone to come up with their own strategy to find and unnerve the others, before managing to finally defeat them.
Examples given by Eric Feurstein, Game Director at Velan Studios, include firing shots close to another player but not at them, and slamming nearby doors, all in the dark.
“You almost get to pretend that you’re like a ghost in a haunted house,” he said.
Join the Club And Die Trying
Midnight Murder Club released into Early Access on March 13, 2025, with a Wildcards mode already available alongside the typical deathmatch mode. Wildcards lets players use cards to change the game rules before a match starts.
But, since each of the six players gets to use a card, this can create completely unhinged games where, for example, everyone leaves neon light trails, has super speed and a bullet-proof vest, makes the winning player glow in the dark, and causes each player to self-combust upon death.
Upcoming game updates revealed by Velan Studio include smarter bots, PvE mode, and new cards.
