Brute Horse is Bananas

The creators of Brute Horse may be producing the whackiest game of the year. Where most games featuring a barbarian of sorts will have players swing huge axes or swords, this might be the only one where you wield your horse instead of riding it.

Indie studio Place of Departure and Bohemia Interactive, through its publishing label Incubator, have released a game trailer that’s part chaos, part combat, and a truck load of comedy. There’s currently no official release date, but the game is scheduled to launch in 2025.

“In the strange and hostile land of South Vulgaria, players will take control of Brute, a fearless barbarian, Horse, his loyal steed, and Michelle, an assassin-inventor. Their mission? Find the Legendary Veterinarian and prevent Horse from meeting an untimely fate,” the gamemakers said in a joint press release.

A Noble But Whacky Quest

Brute Horse backstory is about as whacky as it gets. In a battle where Brute decapitates a dragon, its head falls on Horse and crushes his front legs. For the love of his horse, Brute carries Horse on his shoulders across South Vulgaria to find a legendary vet who can fix him.

Along the way, Horse is not just a weapon that can cause blunt force trauma, the loyal companion is also a utility tool that helps Brute navigate obstacles in South Vulgaria.

Questionable Life Choices

Brute Horse has a couch co-op mode where players team up to solve puzzles, brawl through enemies, and advance through the various landscapes. The devs simple principle of taking something ridiculous and giving it just enough logic to make it kind of believable is what makes the game stand out in the genre.

Players will encounter wild and weird characters with their own agendas and questionable life choices and a world of exaggerated absurdity once it’s fully released.
