The Sinking City 2 Kickstarter Smashes Through Initial Goal

Frogwares, the studio behind multiple Sherlock Holmes games and the original Sinking City, launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund The Sinking City 2 at the start of March 2025. It reached its goal of €100,000 ($108,300) after two hours with almost two weeks to go.

As of this writing, 4,170 people have backed the survival horror sequel, to the tune of €394,460 ($427,080). This means that not only is it able to be fully developed, but that Frogwares can add even more Lovecraftian monsters to the game’s bestiary.

“Incredible news, everyone! Thanks to your amazing support, we’ve smashed through our latest stretch goal – More Slither Designs,” the studio said in an update on Kickstarter earlier this month. “These new forms will enhance the immersion and atmosphere of Arkham, making every encounter even more unsettling.”

Unspeakable Horrors

H.P. Lovecraft was known for creating monsters indescribable in their hideousness, but that hasn’t stopped Frogwares from going all-in on the nightmarish creatures coming to The Sinking City 2. Slither designs were highlighted on its X page:

“A parasite-warped husk, its human shell long since hollowed. It doesn’t stalk. It pressures. It forces you into a corner,” Frogwares warned of the Slither, alongside footage of a human deformed by writhing reddish tentacles.

These Slither monster designs may not be the best thing for those with trypophobia.

The studio has also been active in showcasing other monsters, such as the arms-for-legs Smasher: “A skittering nightmare with human arms for legs. It thrives in the dark, striking fast before vanishing into the rubble.”

Frogwares have also revealed plans for the next stretch goal creature: the Shoggoth.

“Imagine a massive, amorphous horror, a bubbling mass of flesh that faintly glows with an eerie, sickly radiance. Its vast form fills entire corridors, forcing you into tense, claustrophobic confrontations.”

Further Updates

Frogwares is a Ukrainian studio known for its detective games. Although it’s focusing on the survival horror genre a lot more for The Sinking City 2, armchair sleuths aren’t being left out in the cold, as a previous Kickstarter stretch goal meant that the developers could add more investigations to the game.

Backers and fans have been vocal in what else they’d like to see included, in terms of gameplay mechanics and features. A first person option is a popular request, as is the chance to explore parts of the game’s main location, Arkham, before it gets flooded.

With 12 days still to go before the campaign ends, it already looks like there’s a good chance at least some of these requests will be covered.

Editor, occasional game dev, constant dad, horror writer, noisy musician. I love games that put effort into fun mechanics, even if there’s a bit of jank here and there. I’m also really keen on indie dev news. My first experience with video games was through the Game and Watch version of Donkey Kong, because I’m older than I look.
