For the past several months there have been rumours on Twitter, Reddit and other social media platforms that the GTA trilogy remaster is in development. Now, it turns out that the rumours are most likely to be true and three remastered GTA games may come out sometime this autumn or at least by the end of 2021, according to the report from Kotaku. The three PlayStation 2-era GTA games that are being remastered are likely to be GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas.
The trilogy is dubbed legendary by many fans of the series, so it makes sense if these are the titles that Rockstar Games are working on. The remakes in development will be released on PC, modern consoles, and Nintendo Switch. Rockstar’s recent aggressive action against mods using assets from those games as of late only solidifies the rumours about the remastered GTA games, especially after Take-Two’s statement to the investors that the company is actively working on the remaster of “iterations of previously released titles.” Based on this, we can speculate that mods will no longer even be necessary since the remastered games will likely look and feel even better than with plenty of mods.
It’s already known that Rockstar Games will release Grand Theft Auto V: Expanded and Enhanced for the next-gen consoles: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. In addition, the fans are also waiting for the standalone version of Grand Theft Auto Online scheduled to be released on November 11. Now, the fans are also eager to lay their hands on the remastered trilogy that’s shrouded in nostalgia for millions of gamers worldwide and kickstarted the popularity of the GTA series.
All seems to be falling into place and we can’t wait to see what remastered games will look like. It’s speculated that Rockstar may aim not only to overhaul the graphics but also optimize gameplay by using the formula they applied in Grand Theft Auto V. Of course, the final results will show how the developers handle the remaster development and we keep our fingers crossed that the legendary GTA trilogy will be reborn in a new light.
