2020 was a pretty generous year – basing solely from a gaming perspective. For example, we saw the releases of Doom Eternal, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Resident Evil 3 Remake, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, Ghost of Tsushima, and some of the PS4 exclusives like Death Stranding or Horizon: Zero Dawn making their way to PC. However, assuming that these titles will define 2020 as the year of gaming is far from accurate, especially when we take October releases (2020) into consideration. As an example, here are some of the upcoming titles featured on our October game releases 2020 collection!

Star Wars: Squadrons (October 2nd)

First up there’s the new Star Wars FPS space combat game developed by Motive Studios and once again published by Electronic Arts. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as EA is the only company with the license to release Star Wars video games. Like most other EA games from recent years, the upcoming Star Wars: Squadrons also runs on the Frostbite engine. In terms of the setting, Squadrons takes place after the events of Star Wars Ep. VI: Return of the Jedi and allows gamers to play on behalf of both the Empire and the New Republic. Both of the opposing factions have four fighter types, with each being open for cosmetic and performance customization.

Ride 4 (October 8th)

New October video game releases (2020) will also bring about some interesting sports titles like Ride 4 – a motorcycle racing simulation from the developer and publisher Milestone. Sports simulators are often described as ambitious, realistic, and cutting edge due to technological advances of recent years but Ride 4 truly takes the innovation to the next level. Not only does it feature incredibly realistic graphics, dynamic weather, shifting day and night cycles, licensed bikes and tracks recreated in detail through laser and 3D scanning, but the game also introduces advanced AI based on machine learning. Do you think you have what it takes to outrace Artificial Neural Network Agent known as A.N.N.A.?

FIFA 21 (October 9th)

Among the upcoming October video game releases (2020) is another sports title that will serve as an excellent alternative to eFootball PES 2021 Season Update that came out on September 15th. We are, of course, talking about the launch of EA’s flagship football simulation FIFA 21. Like its recent predecessors or the aforementioned Star Wars: Squadrons, the EA Sports game once again runs on the Frostbite engine but gameplay will nevertheless feel different due to the new collision physics as well as Creative Runs and Agile Dribbling mechanics. FIFA Ultimate Team will also see changes such as added co-op play and elaborate stadium customization. October video game releases (2020) aside, we suggest checking out the FIFA Points collection on our website before the upcoming release!

Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition (October 15th)

Last year we saw the return of the RTS classic Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. As the name of the title already implies, it was an HD remaster of the original, so it’s only natural that this year will see the release of the subsequent chapter in the series – Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition. Just like the 2005 original, the Age of Empires III remaster once again circles around European colonization of America’s between the 16th and 19th centuries. It’s the most promising strategy title among the upcoming October video game releases (2020), as the game offers beautiful visual presentation, high replay value, modern features, and new content such as Swedes or Inca civilizations which weren’t included in the original 14 options.

Ghostrunner (October 27th)

It would be a mistake to assume that Cyberpunk 2077 is the only cyberpunk-themed game coming out this fall. Aside from CD Projekt Red, another polish developer team from the studio One More Level is working on their very own cyberpunk experience known by the name of Ghostrunner. Among October video game releases (2020), Ghostrunner stands out for its focus on fast-paced first-person melee combat and a dystopian cyberpunk setting heavily influenced by none other than the cyberpunk cult classic film Blade Runner. The gameplay is packed with parkour features like wall-running, sliding, dashing, all of which play a crucial role in intense combat based around one-hit kills.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands (October 27th)

If you ever thought about joining the world’s most popular MMORPG World of Warcraft, an excellent time for that will be on October 27th – the release date of the new WoW: Shadowlands expansion. Blizzard made sure to create the experience much more accessible to newcomers and we discussed this in greater detail in one of our previous blog entries regarding World of Warcraft: Shadowlands launch. As for the October video game releases (2020) WoW: Shadowlands will take players to a mysterious realm beyond death. 5 new zones and 8 dungeons will be added to the game, along with an endlessly replayable Torghast dungeon also known as the Tower of the Damned.

Watch Dogs: Legion (October 29th)

Upcoming October will conclude with the long-awaited release of Watch Dogs: Legion – the third installment in Ubisoft’s cyberpunk franchise. Set in the near future London, the latest game in the series circles around a fight against an authoritarian private military contractor Albion which seized control of modern society. What separates the title from its predecessors and most other October video game releases (2020) is the fact that Watch Dogs: Legion doesn’t have a lead protagonist. Instead, the player manages and controls different members of the hacktivist movement DedSec. The composition of the organization is constantly changing, giving players more reason to look for new recruits, delve deep into their backgrounds, and continue to explore this living, breathing open-world.
