How many of you can remember Dragon’s Dogma, the open-world RPG game released back in 2012? During the weekend, Netflix refreshed our memory and announced the new anime show based on Dragon’s Dogma story.

In a recent press release, Netflix announced a couple of projects that the streaming service is currently working on including a short announcement about partnering up with CG studio Sublimation to create the original anime series based on the video game by Capcom.

Dragon’s Dogma story follows a man in a journey seeking revenge on a dragon who stole his heart. On his way, the man is brought back to life as an ‘Arisen’. The anime, same as the game, will be an action adventure about a man challenged by demons who represent the seven deadly sins of humans.

Atsushi Koishikawa, a representative director of Sublimation Inc, shared his excitement about the new project:

“Sublimation team has long dreamt of working on our own title. We have oftentimes worked with partner studios to create partial CGI portions within a given title, so we feel very fortunate to work with Netflix through this production line deal. We’re excited to bring our unique cel-shaded animation that carries hand-drawn textures to anime fans around the world.”

However, the press release didn’t give any more details about the planned release date, voice cast or anything else really. So, fans of the original game were quick to spread the rumors that the Dragon’s Dogma anime announcement might also indicate a video game sequel being developed in secrecy. We wouldn’t bet on it but having in mind the recent Capcom strides in order to revive their older games, these rumors can have a small amount of truth in them.

If you’ve never played Dragon’s Dogma, we suggest you head over to our store and refresh your memory with Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. It’s a re-release of the original game alongside its critically acclaimed expansion. A good alternative while you wait for the new Netflix’s anime.
