This year we laughed, we cried, we could play as a cat, a goat, and we even built our cult. We finally got the acclaimed Playstation games on PC and died numerous deaths, followed by ragequitting and, possibly, some broken controllers and keyboards. 2022 was a true rollercoaster with many heartfelt moments and intense boss fights. Let’s wrap this year up with the best games of 2022!

Elden Ring

Elden Ring

Elden Ring won not only the sympathies of many gamers but also the main prize for the Game of the Year award. It builds and expands on every game that FromSoftware delivered prior and takes the Souls formula to the open world. It’s a true masterpiece of world design, accompanied by the freedom of exploration and choices of how you approach the demanding encounters with various creatures roaming the Lands Between. Elden Ring isn’t just one of the best games of 2022, it will become (fingers crossed) an inspiration for developers to push the boundaries of video game design.

God of War Ragnarök

God of War Ragnarok

How can you top a nearly perfect game that was 2018’s God of War? By giving us more bosses to fight, more blood to spill, new moves to learn, and amping the father-son relationship up to 11. Ragnarok isn’t pulling its punches neither in combat nor dropping the curtain on Kratos’ story. The game masterfully balances a heartfelt drama with its brutal, rage-fueled combat. Whether we’ll see Kratos again in a different setting remains to be seen, but as of now, you can play what is, without a doubt, one of the best games of 2022 and a conclusion to Kratos vs. the Norse Pantheon strife.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

If you’ve ever wanted to play through all nine Star Wars movies with a splash of trademark Lego humor, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a perfect game. It not only lets you experience the entire nine movies spanning space opera with up to 380 (!) playable characters, but you can also control over 100 spaceships and vehicles! The game looks fantastic. Built from LEGO bricks, it recreates the iconic locations and scenes from the Star Wars movies. The Skywalker Saga is a love letter to George Lucas’ legacy and every Star Wars fan in the galaxy!

Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon: Forbidden West

Tired of a monotonous routine and looking for a change in your daily life? Embark on a trip to the Forbidden West. Explore the wildlife, meet the local tribes, and test your survival skills. Even though the game was overshadowed by the release of Elden Ring, that doesn’t mean a sequel to Horizon doesn’t deserve its time in the spotlight. Continue the journey of Aloy as she tries to uncover the secrets that lie in the Forbidden West. The game not only looks phenomenally beautiful, but it also pits you against a plethora of robotic animals. Where else can you face a giant robot dinosaur and soar through the skies on the metallic bird? If you’ve played Elden Ring and skipped on Horizon, it’s a perfect time to catch up!

Honorable mentions

There were plenty more outstanding games released this year that should be on your played games list. To those who want to become a true master of the game, Sifu will turn you into a virtual Kung Fu specialist. A humorous Cult of the Lamb will let you build and manage your own cult, and if you feel like you’re up to no good, Goat Simulator 3 will let you cause ridiculous shenanigans. Scorn is great if you’re looking for atmospheric horror, and A Plague Tale: Requiem is a worthy sequel to its predecessor.

There were also some of the best PlayStation games finally released on PC with God of War, Uncharted: The Legacy of Thieves Collection, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
