Square Enix might be considering investing much more money into People Can Fly’s co-op looter shooter game Outriders. Even though the game received mixed reviews upon its release, it sells very well and has shown massive potential for the future. According to the numbers, Outriders has been played by 3.5 million unique players since launch, while the average playtime was around 30 hours per user. Not too shabby…

While most of Outriders’ success can be attributed to Xbox Game Pass (the game was available for service subscribers from day one), it still sold very well on other gaming platforms. In fact, during its launch week Outriders was one of the most popular titles on Steam as well. The game’s popularity might’ve been boosted by its free demo version which to this day is available to download via PlayStation and Xbox stores, as well as Steam and GeForce Now on PC.

After a strong first-month performance, People Can Fly says that there’s still much to do with the core game. During the release period, the team pushed multiple patches and is committed to doing way more in the future. In a statement announcing its first-month results, the development team also stated that it’s very grateful for the community’s support and feedback and will continue to improve Outriders experience in the future.

Square Enix also noticed the potential and said that the game might very well become the company’s “next major franchise”. However, until then there’s a long road ahead, but if we learned anything from Outriders launch it’s that the team can take a punch, get up and prove that they can do better…

If you skipped Outriders during its launch, we recommend it to give it a try now. The game is far better than it was during its first week and more importantly, you can pick it up cheaper from our store!
