After months of early access, last year Insurgency: Sandstorm finally released on PC. While the official launch of the game wasn’t without its issues, the game attracted a lot of attention. Mainly, because there are only a handful of games such as this. Insurgency: Sandstorm is an FPS game that focuses on realism and teamwork instead of allowing a single soldier to win a match on its own. This FPS design works fairly well on PC, but the developers from New World Interactive decided to give it a try on consoles.

The description of the new trailer (which was first shown at PAX East 2020) states:

Insurgency: Sandstorm invites console players to prepare for a hardcore depiction of combat with deadly ballistics, destructive artillery, and unprecedented audio design that puts the fear back into the genre. Death comes fast, ammunition must be carefully managed, and the environment must be tactically navigated at every step towards victory.

Keith Warner, President of New World Interactive also shared a statement about the upcoming game release:

“The console market has been craving a hardcore modern-day tactical shooter for a long time. Expanding our tried and tested PC formula to the console market is a huge step in our company’s evolution and we are excited to bring our signature style of tactical FPS to the console market for the very first time.”

According to the announcement, Insurgency: Sandstorm will be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on August 25th, 2020. Fans over at PAX East 2020 already got a chance to test it out and the first feedback is fairly positive. Of course, while the release is still some months away, it will be better. Who knows maybe console players will avoid buggy PC-like release. If so, Insurgency: Sandstorm has a lot of potential to become a really successful console FPS title.
