Yesterday Team Cherry, the developers behind the hit indie game Hollow Knight were supposed to talk about the new update for the critically acclaimed title. However, fans were treated with an unexpected Valentine’s Day surprise – a whole new game called Hollow Knight: Silksong.

The new game will follow the adventures of the mysterious princess Hornet as she makes her way through the levels fending off enemies with a sewing needle. According to a blog post by Team Cherry, Hollow Knight: Silksong will feature  150 new enemy types, new environments and more.

The developers of the game also teased with some new abilities and moves which Hornet will be able to earn through her adventures. Craftable items will also appear in the Hollow Knight sequel. Players will be able to craft traps and other mechanisms in order to surpass certain challenges posed by the new game.

But that’s not all. Similarly to the first game, after completing the main story, players will unlock a special mode called ‘Silk Soul Mode’. It will be more challenging and will test all the skills you’ve learned by going through the main story campaign.

In its development diary video, Team Cherry revealed even more details about the game and told that initially it was planned as a DLC. However, the team quickly noticed that Silksong became too large and too unique to stay that way, so the decision to release a new game was made.

What’s more, is that players who initially supported the development of the first Hollow Knight through Kickstarter back in 2014 will get a sequel game for free. It will be released for PC, Mac, Linux and Nintendo Switch, however, no launch date is currently set.
