Not many of the new games are being released on Mac simultaneously. However, Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t chase trends. According to a recent announcement by Larian Studios, Baldur’s Gate 3 early access version will be released on Mac alongside Steam and Google Stadia. What a welcome surprise!

Why is it so surprising? Well, support for video games on Mac is fairly rare, for a variety of reasons but mainly due to Apple’s policy regarding content updates – each update has to be checked and rechecked and has to be in line with Apple’s guidelines. That’s why many AAA developers avoid the platform – it’s fairly complicated and time to make changes on the fly. Early Access is another beast entirely, but apparently, Larian Studios are up for a challenge in order to make their game even more accessible.

This might work having in mind the precise fact that there are not a lot of AAA games coming to the platform and many Mac users might consider adding this game to their collection. Currently, the selection of AAA gaming titles is relatively thin, at least compared to the number of games that are released on competing platforms.

Baldur’s Gate 3 promises to be huge even upon its early access release. Recent information provided by developers (we wrote about it in detail here) states that the first act alone is lengthier than most AAA games taking up over 25 hours to complete. And more is coming in the future.

We’ll see how this will work out. The game should launch today on PC, Google Stadia and Mac.
