If you’re a long-time gamer, who has been enjoying video games since 2003 you might remember an old Star Wars game called Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. 17 years after its initial release, the developers over at Aspyr decided to bring this classic game back to the modern era and release it on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Xbox One players are already able to play this game thanks to backward compatibility with Xbox 360.

If you need a reminder or you simply never had a chance to experience the game, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is essentially a Jedi simulator. In the game, you’ll have to create your own Jedi and learn the ways of the lightsaber at Jedi Academy. The game features a lot of famous Star Wars characters as your masters as well as many classic Star Wars locations, which on its own is enough of a reason to give this game a try.

However, Aspyr revived the game with some tweaks and a modern control scheme, allowing new players to experience the game and even test their skills in an online multiplayer. As a post on PlayStation Blog states:

“Our team wanted players new and old to experience the thrill of victory in online multiplayer, which is why we’ve brought it back with modern controls. In Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, you can play with up to 16 players in six online multiplayer modes. We’re bringing back the classics you loved: Siege, Power Duel, Capture the Flag, Duel, and Free For All (both solo and teams).

One of the biggest challenges we faced when bringing back online multiplayer was how to keep the original spirit of the game modes while updating the controls for modern systems. Luckily, the team here at Aspyr is full of Jedi Academy fans who dedicated themselves to recreating the feeling they got playing in 2003 with the updated controls of 2020.”

To celebrate the occasion of this unexpected release, Aspyr also made two PlayStation 4 themes inspired by Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy games. You can get these by signing up on their official webpage.
