There are only a handful of annual esports tournaments which attract hundreds of thousands of gaming fans. One of these tournaments is IEM Katowice which recently announced the dates for 2020 event. Spodek Arena will once again become a Mecca of esports from February 28th through March 1st.

IEM Katowice 2020 will be the first major CS:GO event of the year that will be hosted as a part of ESL Pro Tour. As always, the event hosts will invite 16 teams to battle it out for the grand prize consisting of 500 000 dollars. 10 teams will be invited directly while the remaining 6 will have to compete in regional qualifiers.

In addition to CS:GO tournament, IEM Katowice 2020 will host a lot of smaller-scale shows for other esports competitions as well as a huge expo for visitors to explore. 

“Here in Katowice we do not only remember but also make esports history,” said Michal Blicharz, Vice President of Pro Gaming at ESL. “This Intel Extreme Masters will be very special in that respect.

When it first took place in 2013 it started the era of esports mega tournaments. Now, a new era starts for us with the first-ever Masters Championship of the ESL Pro Tour.”
