The worst kept secret in video games is finally revealed. It’s official – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will get a free-to-play version of the game called Warzone which will bring two massive modes for everyone to try.

If you’ve never heard the rumors, basically everything we’ve speculated about in the past came true. However, we learned a bit more. According to the announcement, Warzone will feature not one but two massive 150-player modes – Plunder and Battle Royale. While we spoke in detail about Battle Royale, Plunder is something we were not expecting.

Plunder is a new style of play that pushes teams to collect as much money as they can before the match ends. To earn it, you will have to loot it in various areas across the map, complete certain in-game contracts or just hunt down enemy players and grab the cash they carry. After the match timer runs out, the team with the most money wins. Simple, right?

As for Battle Royale mode, it’s fairly traditional. Players jump out of the plane in various locations on the map. As time goes on, the play area shrinks funneling the remaining survivors until one team remains standing victorious.

Both of these modes will be played on a massive map called Verdansk which, according to Activision, will feature over 300 points of interest. The map will also feature some familiar locations if you played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, so the old-timers should have a small advantage over the newcomers.

We should also mention vehicles which were pretty dominant in the announcement trailer. According to the developers, Call of Duty Warzone will feature plenty of various means of transportation scattered across the map in random locations. While exploring the Warzone you’ll be able to find ATVs, tactical Rovers, SUVs, cargo trucks, and even a helicopter.

And for the final bit of news – compatibility with the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game… Just like its big daddy Call of Duty Warzone will feature cross-platform play, meaning that PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One players will be able to enjoy games together. Moreover, all the progression earned in the original CoD: MW will carry over to Warzone, including levels and all past cosmetics.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Warzone is free-to-play with no time restrictions. In addition, if you’re new and after a session or two decide to try the full game, you’ll be able to carry all your Warzone progress to Modern Warfare multiplayer. How cool is that?
