The Rookery (PC) Steam Key GLOBAL

The Rookery takes chess and gives it the roguelike treatment. You build an army, take it into fights where the rules bend, and try to get through a run. Bosses bring crazy powers of their own.

It's a fast-paced chess roguelite from Glyder Games, and it launched on Steam in September 2024. The key works on Windows and Mac.

The Rookery Gameplay: Build an Army, Bend the Board

Your army starts small, and the upgrades come as you go. You can lean on pawns or chase as many queens as you can. Or take a greedy route and gamble on potions to get through the first act. Pieces can explode, queens can appear all over the board, and some abilities let you move twice in a row.

What You Get

Here's what comes with it:

• Pieces, boosts, relics and consumables to collect on every run.
• Room to build a pawn-heavy army, a queen-heavy army or something in between.
• Bosses with powers of their own.
• Support for Windows and Mac.

Do You Need to Know Chess to Play The Rookery?

No. The developers say someone who has never played chess can play and win, while the game still poses a brutal challenge for chess masters. Knowing how the pieces move helps.

Is It for You?

If you like chess and want it wilder, or you like turn-based roguelites, you'll feel at home. Every upgrade can change your plan, so runs stay unpredictable.
