MMORPG fans are eagerly waiting for November 23rd when the latest World of Warcraft expansion Shadowlands begins. Currently, World of Warcraft players are enjoying pre-patch questing that sets the stage for the upcoming content. In order to give players a better sense of what we’re getting into in just a week, Blizzard released a new cinematic trailer titled “Beyond the Veil”.

Check it out:

The new amazing CG video teases some upcoming World of Warcraft: Shadowlands content and gives players a better insight into the hierarchy of the WoW’s afterlife. In Shadowlands there are five new zones for players to explore: Bastion, Ardenweald, Maldraxxus, Revendreth, and The Maw.

WoW afterlife covenants

4 of these zones have a specific faction attached to them, each will be available for players to pledge their allegiance to:

  • Bastion’s members are responsible for introducing the new souls to the Shadowlands,
  • Night Fae members are overseeing the incoming souls’ energy,
  • Necrolords are all about fighting and dominating whomever, whenever.
  • Venthyr should help the vilest souls atone for their sins in order to escape the inescapable Maw (but in truth are using the souls for their own benefit).

So-called Covenants will play a central role in the World of Warcraft: Shadowlands’ end-game progression where every little bit of progress allows players to earn renown for their chosen Covenant. Upon completing the new leveling, each player will have to choose one and start their campaign in the final zone The Maw.

It will be interesting to see if this new system will work as Blizzard intends it to work. During testing, the developers received their fair share of criticism for locking players into only one covenant throughout the entire expansion. While Blizzard made some changes addressing the feedback and allowing the most dedicated players to swap Covenants once per week, it’s still a major talking point in the WoW community.

We’ll find out if the new expansion will live up to its hype soon enough. After Battle for Azeroth’s many missteps, Blizzard needs to get this one right. World of Warcraft: Shadowlands releases on November 23rd.
