The weekend was full of surprises for gaming fans and one, in particular, should be adored by the fans of team-based shooters. Over the weekend, Gematsu noticed a new application to the European Union Intellectual Property Office filled by EA. It trademarks the new project called Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville.

While it’s purely our speculation, this new trademark might mean that we’re finally getting a new entry into the Garden Warfare series. A bit earlier, some internet sources claimed that a few selected players were invited to test an early alpha Plants vs. Zombies game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, the project held a different code name “picnic”.

Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville could as well just be a new name for the previously announced Plants vs. Zombies 3 mobile game. We’ve written a bit about it in our previous blog post. However, having in mind that Battle for Neighborville sounds a lot like a Garden Warfare, more so than a mobile tower defense game, our money is on a new team-based shooter.

We might expect to learn more about the new title during the days of Gamescom. If Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville becomes an official title, we’ll let you know.
