Ever since its launch in 2017, the handheld Nintendo Switch console has continued to entertain gamers with the possibility to enjoy some of the best triple-A gaming titles right on the go, even if you’re staying outside. Examples of such games include The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, or Doom (2016) just to name a few. If you thought that Switch has run out of surprises by this point – think again! With the launch of upcoming Switch games (2020), we will see entire collections of acclaimed titles making their way to the portable Nintendo gaming system. Here are some of the already established release dates to look forward to.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition (May 29th)

Xenoblade Chronicles originally launched on Nintendo Wii way back in 2010. Since then it has spawned multiple sequels and became the definitive JRPG title of Nintendo. 10 years after its initial release, Xenoblade Chronicles is among the upcoming Switch games (2020) and it’s being brought back by the original developer Monolith Soft as the new Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition.

It should be noted that this latest iteration of the first Xenoblade Chronicles is not merely a port. The game will feature updated graphics and a remixed soundtrack that the old-school fans will come to enjoy. On the other hand, there are things no technical upgrade can improve or replace. In the case of Xenoblade, it’s the epic story along with imaginative world-building. The battle between Bionis and Mechonis has raged for millennia and apparently, it shows no signs of stopping even in 2020.

BioShock: The Collection (May 29th)

All three of the iconic Bioshock series installments are among the upcoming Switch games, 2020. Without question, Bioshock games are timeless classics and if you still somehow haven’t played any of them by now, the release of BioShock: The Collection on Switch will serve as a perfect opportunity to finally get into these atmospheric and memorable experiences.

The package will include both the games set in the underwater Rapture city as well as the third installment BioShock: Infinite, set in the flying city of Columbia. All three first-person shooters will feature technical upgrades from the remastered versions like upgraded textures, 60 FPS refresh rate, and the 1080p definition. With these upcoming Switch games (2020) players will also be able to enjoy Bioshock 2: Minerva’s Den Remastered and BioShock Infinite: Columbia’s Finest DLC expansions.

Borderlands Legendary Collection (May 29th)

On the very same day as the release date of BioShock: The Collection, Nintendo Switch fans will also get to witness another classic first-person shooter series arriving on the platform. Borderlands Legendary Collection will feature Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel together with Borderlands 2: Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary DLC. All of these upcoming Switch games (2020) will be fully accustomed to Nintendo’s game system, including split-screen local co-op and four-player online mode support.

Never played Borderlands before? Like BioShock games, they are first-person shooters with elements of RPGs, however, they heavily differ in terms of style and the flow of the gameplay. Borderlands is known for its unique animation-inspired graphics, engaging co-op, wild sense of humor, and guns – lots and lots of guns. There are hundreds of weapons that can be obtained through loot, with a lot of them having unique effects. Couple that with the ability to pick one of the multiple Pandora’s Vault hunters and you have three games, each with exceptional replay value.

XCOM 2 Collection (May 29th)

Upcoming Switch games (2020) also include the XCOM 2 Collection. Despite being titled as a collection, this bundle includes only one game – the award-winning turn-based strategy from Firaxis Games – XCOM 2. However, with this package, Nintendo Switch players will not only get to enjoy the base game but also its DLC expansions: Tactical Legacy Pack, Alien Hunters, Shen’s Last Gift, Anarchy’s Children, and the Resistance Warrior Pack.

Anyone who has played XCOM 2 from start to finish knows how addicting this game can get. There are so many ways to approach combat that even when you play through the game for the second or third time, old missions always play out differently than before. These gameplay elements make XCOM 2 one of the most awaited upcoming Switch games (2020), despite its unforgiving difficulty. This is, after all, a desperate guerilla fight against a puppet alien government, coupled with permadeath and time limits but due to these exact circumstances, victories in XCOM 2 are turn out to be exceptionally rewarding.

Burnout Paradise Remastered (June 19th)

Yet another classic is on its way to Nintendo Switch and it belongs to the racing game genre. On June 19th, 2020 expect to once again be greeted by the Gun’s n’ Roses – Paradise City playing on the menu screen. Way back in 2008, Criterion Software has brought about one of the best alternatives to the old-school Need For Speed games. Like many other upcoming Switch games 2020, the Nintendo version of Burnout Paradise will also be a current-gen remaster featuring refined visuals and running on 60 FPS.

What sets the Burnout Paradise Remastered apart from other racing video games is its focus on aggressive driving. The game doesn’t feature licensed cars and that’s not a problem at all – the real focus here are not the cars but the absolute carnage happening in the streets of open-world Paradise City. One of the main gameplay highlights is the short in-game cutscenes that play every time you destroy an opponent’s vehicle. There’s nothing like a rush one feels witnessing an opposing car get shredded at 200 km/h while being accompanied by the Gun’s n’ Roses song in the background.

Catherine: Full Body (July 7th)

The last title on the upcoming Switch games 2020 list, is the adult-themed puzzle game from Atlus (creators of Persona series) called Catherine: Full Body, originally released in 2011. Since its initial launch, the game was ported between PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4 and now the title will also make its way to the Nintendo Switch gaming system. Like the PS4 port, the new iteration of Catherine: Full Body will feature additional content such as the inclusion of a DLC character named Rin and a large variety of additional cosmetic options.

To be more precise, Catherine: Full Body is more than simply a narrative-driven puzzle game. It’s also an interactive visual novel where the choices made by the player can lead to one of the 13 different endings. Furthermore, it’s one of the most mature titles when looking at all the upcoming Switch games 2020, since it explores themes like long-term psychological consequences of promiscuity. Like in the Persona games, Atlus once again does an excellent job by expressing problems of human relationships through stylish metaphors.
