So it begins… The next console generation is here and this holiday season every gaming fan will have to make an important decision – Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5. While we already wrote a lot of things and shared a lot of memes about Xbox Series X, yesterday we got our first-ever look of PlayStation 5 and its games. And to be honest, PlayStation 5 doesn’t look very good. And that’s where we would love to begin…

PlayStation 5 looks weird

While the main advantage Sony had over Microsoft in the upcoming console generation was the power of the console, the looks of the hardware are important too. After all, it will be placed in your living room for years and you wouldn’t want to hide your console, right?

Yesterday’s stream was building towards the epic reveal of PlayStation 5 and its accessories… And the reveal was met with a lot of “WTF IS DAT” in chat and a storm of twitter memes making fun of the new design. Here’s a snippet of the reception…

However, we should point out that there are many different opinions and some people (even in our office) like the new design. For years now hardware makers were trying to make the vertical design work, and there are a lot of people who are into that. Not a lot, but some… And it’s worth noting that you will be able to place your PS5 horizontally. You will need some additional holders, but Sony will provide such an option.

The cost of PlayStation 5

While the price of the new PlayStation is not conclusive and can change as the 2020 holiday season comes closer (or if you live in a part of the world where everything is cheaper), market analysts predictions have placed the PS5 price in the region of $499 / £449 / AU$749 / 499 EUR. It’s not cheap, but considering the generation leap, the new price seems fair.
