Weeks of leaks and teases have been followed by the official announcement of the new Call of Duty game. The new series entry will be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and will launch on October 25th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is being developed by Infinity Ward.

Let’s be frank, the new trailer looks stunning but doesn’t say a whole lot about the game. At least, Infinity Ward spilled some beans and assured that the new Call of Duty will get a closer examination on June 11th, during the E3 Coliseum event. For now, fans of the franchize got only a couple of very welcome news.

First of all, Infinity Ward states that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be the first game in the series to fully support cross-platform play. This will help unite the community no matter their platform of choice. This might also mean that the game will stay relevant for a lot longer than any other Call of Duty game.

Second, the new Modern Warfare is ditching its Season Pass monetization model. Currently, it’s not clear on whether future DLCs will be priced individually, or will they reach players for free. According to the developers, at least a portion of the content won’t require players to spend any additional money. Infinity Ward stated that post-launch maps, as well as special in-game events, will be available for free.

We don’t know about you guys, but that’s all we need to know to get excited about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. And we’ll learn more in just a couple of weeks… The team behind the new game has the experience to develop a worthy successor – Infinity Ward previously created Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
